winME to win98 for a n00b

OK, I recently bought a high-end computer from DELL (first mistake). But it came with ME (BIG mistake). I have a win98 cd, but it obviously won't let me install it. People are saying i gotta wipe my Hard Drive clean and all this stuff. I'd like a step-by-step process on how to install win98 on my vcomputer. Remember, I'm a n00b at this, so i need the FULL process, i have no boot disk (need to know how to do that too) all i have is my computer, and my windows98 cd. Please help.

here's one little guide. i'd step-by-step it for ya personally but it would take too long. basically, read that link and think of any specific questions that you come up with

here's yet another guide in case the above isn't good enough

before you follow those directions, there's something you have to know about Dells.

Dell's have a secret ghost partition that makes sure you DON'T repartition your hard drive. If you do, your system will stop working after you install your OS over the newly partitioned drive. Then there's no way of getting it back and you'll need a completely new system.

shiva *might* be right about some dells, but then again, i've partitioned and formatted tons of dells at work and NEVER had a problem. i don't think you can generalize about that being a problem with ALL dell's

Should I do it? I don't wanna fu** it all up, but I'm really fed up with winME, so what should i do? go for it...im goin for it 🙂

I have reformatted and repartitioned so many dells at work I have lost count, I have never ran into one that stoped working. Granted we only use Optiplex and Dimention systems though.
