WinME Sucks

<< WinME Sucks >>

That's because it is named after you.🙂

I installed it and thought it was a big piece of fecal matter too. I did a custom install and told it not to install WMP7 and it did anyway. I can't wait until there is better driver support for Win2K so I can upgrade.

anyone know where I can DL windows 2000(non-warez). I am talking about the type of stores that let you download stuff.

Or if warez PM me. 🙂

i agree viperoni... i've been using win ME in a few machines since way back last oct/nov ish and have had no problems... i agree win 2k is a great OS as well, but it's not without flaws... two of my friends just had system crashes last week they haven't fixed on win 2k...

My system didn't like ME either. Seems some of my drivers didn't like it. WTH is the difference from 98SE?

Never really had a problem running ME for the lenght of time that I did.
Never had a problem with 2000 either. Which I have completely ditched 98 based OSes for.

Mabey im just lucky, mabey, people just dont know what they are doing 😉

WinME is the "step up" from Win98SE ... Unfortunately it is increasingly unstable, significantly slower and more resource demanding, etc.

Most people don't realize how crappy WinME is, because it comes with their computer and they think it's good just 'because'. But it isn't, it does indeed suck. Microsoft really botched this one up. Now there's even less DOS.. What did that give Win9x? Nothing! DOS just allowed people to do more... Removing bits of DOS from Win9x does not make it more stable... WinME is seriously a botched up Win98!

It's my opinion that Windows 98SE and Win2K are the two best releases of Windows to date. While Windows 98 does not have the stability of Windows 2000, it's still stable enough for the average user and handles games nicely, while also having a huge compatibility base. It also is not too demanding (I've seen sub-100MHz run Win98 nicely, you just have to set it up properly).

If you're going to support Microsoft, use Windows 98 or Windows 2000. 🙂 Otherwise stick with BeOS and/or Linux (LIE-NUX dammit.. 'linnux' sounds dumb and makes no sense). Some stores are selling their systems with Linux now, it's nice to see that happening.

My WinME was amazingly stable on my Duron machine.
I had a mx300 in there, and not knowning about the incompatability problem with the kt133 chipset, I was going through mazzive lockups in games for over a month.
I'd easily get 10 lockups a day.
that was for the first month of my WInME install.
Then I got rid of the sound card, and it was rock solid.
I'd leave my comp on no problem all day crunching seti/RC5, and it wouldn't give me any trouble at all.
It was just as stable as my dual 366 @ 500 bp6 machine running Win2k.

yakko-

I didn't have trouble with the additions or the look. It was my hardware that had problems.

Then it sure liked to use RAM too.

Nah... WinME is a great OS. I had 95, then 98, then 98SE on two machines at home. I just installed WinME this past winter on them and they run great, that system restore feature is awesome.

Personally I dual boot WinME and Win2K... WinME only for back up purposes.

Oh gosh, system restore uses twice your HDD space :Q

And it fragmented my HDD faster then a ginsu knife.
Id say WinME is far from a great OS.

I am not the biggest MS fan, but I have had absolutely zero issues with WinME. I like the fact that it supports my DV camera - and I really like the 30 second boot up. My 98SE and Win2000 machines take for what seems like forever to boot.
