WinME not "seeiing" the network

I have a ME machine with a NIC, trying to share DSL.
I got all the stuff. Hub, router, dsl modem, nic card...
the problem is with all "default" setup, not changing anything after the computer see the NIC. When I run winipconfig when pluged into the dsl modem it receives a IP. but if I plug it to the hub that connects to the router to the modem it said adapter not connected.

all the cable works, lights are green. but it just can't see anything when plugin to the hub. i have tried the setup with another computer and it works.

H E L P !! ! ! ! ! ! !

yeah, all the lights are on, and they are all green.

The basic problem I see is..

with the same cables,
when connected to the DSL modem, I get an IP assign to the NIC
when connected to the router, I got message of "not connected" when "ipconfig"

Help....

when you connect to the dsl modem, it gives you an ip from your isp. you need to setup your roueter to give you a local ip (192.168.0.2). when connected to router, winipcfg will show you thta 192.*.*.* ip, and then the router will route (hence the name 😉 your packets to the modem.

lmk if have any more questions

What cable are you using? crossover or straight? The cable that you're using to connect your nic to the Modem shouldn't be the same to use to connect the nic to the hub. I am pretty sure that it's your problem. You should use a straight from your nic to the hub.
