WinME LAN trouble

Im trying to setup a windows ME network, I have 2pc's each with 3com nics connected by crosscable.

TCP/IP for PC1 is set to: 192.168.0.1, MASK 255.255.255.0

TCP/IP for PC2 is set to: 192.168.0.2, MASK 255.255.255.0

I have IPX, client for ms, file and print sharing, proticals installed on both pc's. I have set sharing on both hard drives. set same workgroup on both pc's.

The problem:
PC1 cant see PC2.
PC2 CAN see PC1, but when I click on it for file sharing I get the error: "\\PC1 is not accessible"

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to set a host or something?

Thanks for any help

now with netbui neither computer can see each other, and sometimes on PC2 it says "unable to access network"

Are you using MS client to logon, and NOT hitting cancel. You will get an "not accessible" error if you do not. First thing that came to my mind.

It comes up with my user name, but I dont have any set passwords, so I can just hit enter...could that be doing it?

The easy way is to have ONLY TCP/IP enable, have some folders or HDD shared in both machines, have the share my files and printers enable in both pcs as well.

Best regards

I saw someone else post a similar solution on another board and I have to disagree strongly. TCP/IP is notorious for name resolution issues, at least on windows machines. NetBEUI is conversely a popular choice for clearing up such issues. If you dont want to worry about resolving NetBIOS names in windows when only using IP, better have a WINs server or a hosts file.
