WinME Installation Problems

OK, here my system configuration:

MSI BX Master w/. latest BIOS (has an onboard Promise ATA/66 controller)
Celeron 566MHz
352MB RAM
Western Digital 45GB
Fijitsu 13.6B
Panasonic 48x CDROM
AOpen 12x burner

OK, I have purchased the WinME full CD. Then, I fdisked my HD and formatted my HD (boot straight off the WinME CD). Then, during the installation and here comes the error message, @ 10%, I get an error saying installation files cannot be copied onto your HD with an error code SU0325 (corrupted CAB files). Then, I rebooted and format the HD again and this time, I copied the Win9x folder to HD and install from it. Then, this time, it stopped @60% saying "error extracting the cabs" blah blah blah. Then, I can't continue......

I went a diagnostic utility for my HD and it said my HD's integrity is 100% fine. My PC installs Win2K Pro perfectly BUT WinME! I need some help ASAP!

Thanks.

Install off of the ata66 controller. Ensure that the hdd and the cd are off on the initial install. Once the os is installed then install the ata66 drivers and move the hdd to the ata66 port...

But I have already done that (put the HD and CDROM back to the std. UDMA IDE connector). Formatted and still has error....It's so frustrating!

Diable the UDMA66 controller. If you still have issues then I would look at the media and make sure that there are no scratches on the disk... Also this is an original? not a copy. (understand that I make an archive copy and then install from that- that is why I am asking). Also try installing only the one CD (48X) when you install it.

I can't disable the Promise ATA/66 because it's onboard (checked the menu too). Yes, I installed with my 48x and my HD connected (burner not connected). I installed from a burnt copy, not to use the original as I don't wanna damange it. The burnt copy has no figer print or scartch...This is so weird....Actually, I have installed ME before successfully but that was when my HD connected to my Promise controller (which means I get a lot of BSOD after I setup ME).....

I may be totally crazy but I had a similair problem once, believe it or not it was some kind of setting on the Motherboard having to do something with "Virus Protection" on the boot sector or something like that...it's been a while so I don't remember the details.

I thought it was a bad CD also, but I knew the CD was good and had no scratches.

Let me know if this helps.

Mitch

I already set my BIOS to disable the virus protection though. But thanks for trying.....Not working yet.

hook your drive to your normal ide connections and install windows then install the drivers for the ata66 and move the drive over..
