Man, this is crazy, I boot my computer in WinME, I have SETI, AIM, Winamp Tray and some oter programs running on startup and when I open Asus PC Probe (I have a CUSL2), it says that 91% of my Physical Memory (256MB) is being used and 3% of my virtual memory is being used, what in the earth can gobble 200+MB RAM in WinME!?

seti alone uses 15 megs alone on my system and that's on an NT 4 system. But yeah 200+ megs is an awful lot, I have 39 megs used on my NT 4 system after a reboot.

Its called memory management. It makes presumptions about what programs will need. Then it allocates that to them. When new programs start it reduces the RAM that the other programs are allocated. Overall it makes things faster than having to allocate ram on the fly.

Warrenton is right on the spot, but if it bothers you that bad, you could get a program like Memturbo, so something else that does a RAM defrag. It'll probably free up ALOT of memory at startup, but overall it seems to slow down your computer, unless there was a memory leak.

Memory leaks don't bother me even... 512MB is enough to handle a few decent sized leaks without impact except on things like Photoshop.

of my 512MB, only 284MB is free at bootup for me. That means 228MB is used at boot, that is pretty dang close to yours.

I'm having the same situation here. I installed Cacheman and it helped a bit.
