Hi!

Just a heads up that if you pre-ordered WinME from buy.com, you should get it today, release day !

[ Of course, many forum members have WinME from other sources, but that is not relevant here. ]

Hey HepDude, did you buy the full retail ver or just upgrade? & by the icon you chose for yourself & your name, you look like a hippy, that believes in free love, free will & of course free software, imagine how many fake friends you can make by posting your official retail copy of winme without the cdkey, you'll be a hero, ahahahahaha j/k

What is the process ship date on your ups label. I am in the a two day delivery window for using Ingram micro in Fullerton Ca. I am wondering if I should wait around for ups today. I also heard that you cannot do a clean install using the 98 to winme upgrade disc that you have to have win98 preinstalled for it to run the install, no more cd disc verification like in the past. Is this true. Can somebody verify it its bull#@#@ or not. Thanks

Rain

It was delivered by "RPS" (which was purchased by Fedex a few weeks ago to handle all Fedex Ground shipments).

It was shipped "9/12/00" and the return address is Buy.com in Newark, California, which is in the SF Bay Area.

Don't wanna burst your bubble, but those of us who have had winme for a while know that winme sucks. It offers no improvments over win98, just less customization, more idiot friendly features, and more bloat.

Thats super. You guys hate ME cause' your think its just like Win98SE? What was wrong with Win98SE? I am running dual-boot Win2K & WinME and love them both for different reasons. Both are very dynamic and stable, yes perhaps somewhat bulletproof too!

BTW, the CD-ROM's label covers the entire disk with a hologram, so any remotely normal looking CD is a pirated copy.

[I got this mostly for ICS - I figured I might as well have the latest, then I don't have to update again until MS goes to the NT/2K sort of OS for everyone in a year or two.]

well windows 98 was just like windows 95.. however I don't see complaints here about you upgrading (I did only becuase I wanted to try out dual monitors, and I now have 2 USB game devices).

I'm not very impressed with WinMe either. They've added so many idiot-proof features that it's more difficult to customize than before. If you're a current 98SE user, you'll just be subjected to more bloat by "upgrading." I tried out Me (got a full version copy when Microsoft's Roadshow hit Phoenix) for a while on my secondary system. I didn't like it and I went back to 98SE. I think I'll remain largely a Win2k user.

Well, the transition from 95 to 98 was a bit different. 98 added support for several fundamental features that 95 didn't have, like true USB and AGP support.

is it just me or can anyone tell me what winme can do that win98 can't.

don't get this the wrong way because there are lots of book like that, but it seems that WinME could have been called Windows for Idiots. I really don't see any real reason why I would upgrade to it. I think they just made it idiot proof. but that's just my opinion.

Windows 98 3rd edition is what they should have called it. Either that or upgrade your OS, even though you can download must of the improvements off the net for free. Media Player 7, IE 5.5. I'm not excited about ME.

<< more idiot friendly features >>

Which is precisely why I will use it in machines for newbies. Not everyone is as computer savvy as we here at AT are.

I've installed it and it works fine so far. Also installed ICS and that works - except for the automatic dialup when the client needs it part (which is undoubtedly just a configuration setting that I goofed up).

Actually - it's hard to find much different.

RainCity,
You can do a clean install of Win ME. It will ask you for a 98 disk for authentication and then you're off to a normal installation of ME. I just did it yesterday after a formatting.
