I bought the full game.
Here is my review. The game is not as complex as the IL-2 series. The graphics are pretty amazing compared to IL-2 but not really great compared to games of today though. The nice thing, it runs smooth and has no stutters which is very important when dogfighting, and it has a high FPS.
The game tries to come off as being more realistic (with options) but all it does is turn off the HUD for the most part.
The single missions (you can play them and unlock more, etc) get harder as you go, and some are ridiculous where you start playing later the later missions.
I was playing 1 mission where you have a flight of 4 in a LA-7 airplane (1 bomb each or maybe 2), and you have to blow up ground targets. You are lucky with your flight to kill the 3 anti aircraft guns that you have to blow up at first. Once you blow them up, it tells you to blow up another 3, then another 3, and another 3... In other words, if it was "realistic" you'd never win, you'd run out of ammo and bombs before you ever got through the first 3 but you have to blow up 12+ of them...
You literally HAVE TO DIE and use your "continues" (to put it in Arcade terms) to respawn with more bombs. I'd run out of ammo and bombs and would kamakazie into more ground targets to respawn with more ammo and bombs. The game is not designed around being able to successfully complete missions on realistic mode, meaning limited ammo and fuel and with no respawns. It has designed missions for unlimited ammo/bombs and unlimited respawns.
In the end, the game is arcady even though it tries to advertise itself as being more realistic. Because of the nature of the respawns and mission types, it completely draws me out of the game, and I can't recommend it for any serious flight simmer. Not to mention there are no dedicated online servers so you can't play with real players to get away from their ridiculous missions.
I have not tried campaign mode yet though.
