WinFS

I know it's still really early... but...

Does anyone know if the new WinFS file system (I hate doing that... Win File System File System 😉) will support characters such as /, " and whatever isn't currently allowed?

WinFS is just going to be a database layer over NTFS for use in searches, if I understand correctly. It won't affect filename rules.

but ofcourse they are probally going to slightly change NTFS so the people trying to hack support for it in linux have even more fun.

but what Electrode said I doubt limitations will change much from the current NTFS

Kinda like Windows 2000 being built on "NT Technology" (New Technology Technology)? I have no idea about the answer to your question though. Sorry. 😉

Off topic, but I cannot stand the way some people say "RAM memory", or refer to their computer as the hard disk. Also, I have some people say they want to upgrade the memory on their computer, only to be talking about the hard disk. Sigh.

I've never once heard a computer referred to as a hard disk, but I have heard of the computer tower referred to as the CPU. It irritates me because the CPU is only one component inside the computer.

You haven't heard much, have you? 😉

I musta heard people referring to their computer as "the harddrive" a gazillion times.

Electrode understands correctly, AFAIK. 🙂

FWIW, I've heard "computer" used for the monitor, and "modem" for the computer.
