Wine: How much for a California Cabernet?

Ok so I'm not a big wine drinker but I'm having dinner with someone tomorrow that is and I want to bring a bottle of wine. She mentioned she most often drinks a California Cabernet so I think I'll play it safe and bring that but I don't know what a reasonable price is. Obviously I can go price them myself, but I'd like some opinions on what a good cabernet should cost.

anywhere between $2 and $200++++

go to a place with a bit more selection, somewhere that actually shows ratings, and pick something high 80s low 90s at what you consider a reasonable price. World Market is pretty much everywhere, and they advertise ratings. Any market similar to that would do. I believe Costco/Sam's club also show ratings, and are thrifty.

you can find some great Cali cabs for around $10-20.

Though, I'd recommend you broaden her horizons and bring a CA Shiraz/Syrah. I prefer these much more than the cabs out here. Cabs are great though.

great choices! especially the sebastiani.

Yea, no need to spend more than 20 bucks on pretty much any bottle of wine unless you're a connoisseur or want to impress. For drinking, there isn't much difference.

oh yeah! Ravenswood Vintner's Blend '06 Syrah can be had for ~$6-9 most of the time out here. at Safeway even. Very good bargain.

I went with Ravenswood and that went over well. Thanks for the suggestions all. I'll keep this bookmarked for the future. 😉
