OK ...

1) Does gold react with wine
2) If it does, does it effect the taste of the wine?
3) Do studies exist to prove this one way or another?

Ready ... FIGHT

Couldn't find any on my quick google search. I wouldn't use them, because I think they look tacky as shit.

EDIT: Changed my search and it seems it is possible, however, it just takes time. And any metallic taste from said glasses are likely due to the lips touch the metal rim, not the wine reacting with it.

gold is favored in many situations precisely because it's NOT reactive.

It strongly resists most acids, needing something like aqua regia (nitro-hydrochloric acid) to really dissolve it, so I don't think wine would be a problem

I'm gonna go with this. Gold is pretty non-reactive, but I don't think it's a good look, especially if you have them a long time, and the gold starts coming off in patches. Looks ghetto.

I wouldn't doubt it if some gold came off the rim per sip. But how many parts per million would come off and how many parts per million are required to actually taste the difference?

Wine obviously tastes better when you have horned rimmed glasses of tortoise shell. Especially, if it is retro wine.

The only ones I have are sunglasses for when I drive. I do not wear them when I am drinking though, since I generally am drinking only during the evening when it is dark out.

That said, I also generally will be drinking a stout of some sort, though I would not turn down a glass of dry red, with or without gold rims.

See, there is your problem. Wearing shades after dark is essential to enjoying a fine wine. Corey Hart agrees, obviously.

Yea, but then I'm liable to get into an accident! I have to have good visibility to drive safely!
