Anyone here in an online wine club where they ship you a certain amount of wine to taste each month? My wife was interested in trying one cause of a WSJ wine club flyer she saw. We both like wine, but i know nothing about these clubs.

Any really good clubs that are not too expensive? Or maybe one where you don't HAVE to get 12 bottles a month? (that's a lot of wine).

We have the Finger Lakes region wineries, the Chautauqua region wineries; we travel and there are often wineries where we go to. Makes for a good time killer. Prices range from free, to $10 (includes keeping the glass) for trying somewhere between 4 and 10 different types of wine. Last place we tried wine, we each tried 6 flavors, and took a tiny sip of each others' when we thought one was particularly good. We'll generally get between 2 and 12 bottles of wine at a winery following a wine tasting. One bottle (750ml) is perfect for 1/2 an hour in the hot tub on a cold fall/winter evening for 2 people. That's about 2 glasses each. I prefer to not have leftover wine, since the oxygen quickly degrades wine. Though, some wines are temporarily enhanced by the infusion of oxygen - in particular, a wine I tasted at New Hope winery (somewhere near the NJ/PA border) had some buttery hints that weren't present prior to having a bit of air added.

I don't understand why people like those wine clubs, unless they live in a region void of any wineries. A winery might have 30 different wines that they produce - and they manage to sell all of those types of wines. Thus, someone likes the styles that I don't like. Why would I want someone to pick out full bottles of wine for me that I might not enjoy? I've had sweet wines that I love, sweet wines that I hate. My wife seems to prefer semi-sweet to sweet, and ditto - plenty of them that she doesn't like. And, there are plenty of dry wines that she does like. Plus, I make my own wine at home; generally non-grape, fruit wines, though this fall I'll probably do 5 gallons each of concord & niagara. (25 bottles of each)

12 bottles a month would be a lot of wine.

My girlfriend and I were just out at Cline in Sonoma (she loves their wine) and they have a club that ships quarterly, either 2, 6 or 12 bottles per quarter, you can choose red, white, or a mix. They make a great variety and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend trying them out.

I would never join a "curated" wine club that is often advertised in magazines, etc and which usually offer something ridiculous like "$200 of wine for $50!" or some shit like that. With that said, I have been in several different winery wine clubs after visiting the winery and tasting quite a bit and determining that I like their styles. Most wineries have options with how many bottles and their delivery schedules and you can usually select red, white, or mixed. The last wine club I was a part of sent 2 bottles every 2 months (total of a case / year) and you got other perks like free tastings, bottle release parties, etc. I ended up canceling because I moved away from the area and didn't get as much benefit.

We have quite a few wineries in KS and MO and ive been to maybe 3/4 of them. Most are drinkable but nothing outstanding. We do wine tastings a few times a year and usually buy a bottle and drink it there at the winery. But i dont think id want a ton of just one wineries wine mailed to me.

I find it hard to beat the value of Little Penguin wine at the liqour stores. Its not the best wine ive ever had, but for $6/bottle its awesome. Ive tried all the types of wines they carry and they are all good to me.

Ill do some research on wine clubs or maybe find a local place that does it. Most likely im going to find its more money than id like to spend per bottle.
