Windy in L.A.!

It was so windy last night that my kids' school sustained sufficient damage that it is closed today. There is also no power at the school.

We had our power flicker a number of times. Friends reported on FaceBook (via their mobile phones) that they lost power last night for hours at a time.

I did not see any trees down on my block, there are reports of trees down all over the place. There are a ton of small to medium sized branches all over my street and my front yard, though.

It was no tornado or hurricane, but it was one of the biggest winds we have seen around here in a long time.

So.Cal. wind victims, check in!

High winds here in Santa Barbara as well, but no damage or trees down that I've seen. Power at work has flickered a bunch, but hasn't gone out. Supposed to remain just as windy tomorrow. Gusts to 50MPH

Pasadena got whupped; some schools even closed today.

I was at a friends house in Pasadena last night and walked backed to the train station around 10. It was crazy windy and I was dodging falling branches and there was trash all over the place. At the train station (Del Mar) literally the winds were like 25/30MPH+, it was almost pushing me around. There were some tourists there from the South and they were freaking out asking me if the apartment building next to the station was going to fall or something. I have never seen it that windy here.

At my place in downtown I couldn't sleep for crap as my windows were rattling all night, even on the 11th floor.

yea it was pretty crazy. as i was getting ready to leave work yesterday power shut down, thankfully we have awesome back up power lols.

It's been blowing pretty hard up here as well.

I haven't heard about any significant damage, but I was out and about this morning and saw a few signs blown over and in the roadway.

Today's National weather forcast discussion:
SHORT TERM (TODAY-SUN)...
A VERY STRONG AND RATHER ATYPICAL WIND EVENT UNDER WAY. COLD 545DM
UPPER LOW IS OVER NEEDLES. IT IS BRINGING VERY STRONG UPPER LEVEL
NORTH WINDS OVER L.A. COUNTY. THESE NORTH WINDS HAVE COMBINED WITH A
GREAT DEAL OF COLD AIR ADVECTION (WHICH PROMOTES DOWNWARD TRANSPORT
OF THE STRONG WINDS ALOFT) AND VERY STRONG NORTHERLY OFFSHORE SFC
PRESSURE GRADIENT (IN FACT THE KBFL TO KLAX GRADIENT WAS 8.2 MB
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WHICH IS THE GREATEST IT HAS EVER BEEN IN
NOVEMBER SINCE 1999) TO CREATE A VERY STRONG NORTH WIND EVENT OVER
L.A. COUNTY. HIGH WIND WARNING LEVEL GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR GREATER HAVE
BEEN RECORDED IN EVERY PORTION OF L.A. COUNTY EXCEPT THE ANTELOPE
VLY AND THE COASTAL SECTION AND EVEN IN THOSE AREAS WINDS HAVE BEEN
STRONG ENOUGH TO CREATE LOTS OF PROBLEMS. NOT TOO MUCH GOING ON IN
THE VTA COUNTY COASTS AND VLYS AS THE WINDS ARE REALLY ONLY FOCUSED
ON L.A. COUNTY. THERE WILL BE SOME WARNING LEVEL GUSTS ACROSS THE
HIGHER PEAKS IN THE VTA MTNS...SOME ADVISORY LEVEL GUSTS IN THE ERN
VLYS (AND MOSTLY THIS MORNING)...AND HARDLY ANYTHING AT THE COAST.
THE WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT THEIR CURRENT VELOCITIES THROUGH THE
MORNING AND THEN WILL DIMINISH A BIT IN THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING BEFORE REVING UP AGAIN.

LOL @ Pasadena local emergency declaration. I love LA but I swear this city is ill equipped to deal with anything more severe than 72 degrees and partly cloudy.

Well it's been windy plenty of times before, but this was seriously some hardcore wind that even I was like.. whoa hope something doesn't fall on me.

There's giant piles of pine needles littered across my condo complex when I got home around 10pm last night. Our business had 2 blackouts last night. Large parts of LA were blacked out. I heard NW LA got hit the hardest. Weather channel last night says wind was up to 45mph around here.

I remember driving to work yesterday morning and thinking how nice the trees looked with the color changing leaves. This morning they were stripped bald.

we had the biggest storm of the year here in Denmark during the weekend, a bus fell over, it was crazy!
