WinDVD or PowerDVD???

I'm having problems using my DVD software (both full versions).

With PowerDVD I cannot get hardware support to work. My GeForce2 has hardware motion compensation, but I can't enable the option in PowerDVD, which is bloody annoying as the playback is nowhere near as smooth as WinDVD even on my Athlon 1.5 with 512Mb of DDR.

I'd be happy using WinDVD instead, only it doesn't have an option to adjust the aspect ratio to a pan & scan type like PowerDVD, which just seems to come with a far more developed feature set.

What do you think?

Despite what Gonzo2k says, I?d recommend WinDVD, that is unless you plan on re-installing it twice a month! I?ve looked at a couple of software players and WinDVD seems to have a very good picture and the current version also has DTS support. If you had an ATI video card, ATI?s DVD player has a slightly better picture than WinDVD, but since that?s not an option, and you have problems with PowerDVD, WinDVD will work nicely in your situation.

Thanks Escalade for the response. I'm still stuck though, as I cannot change the aspect ration at all. Is there a hidden option somewhere in WinDVD that allows things like 1:185 sampling etc..?

I would recommend WinDVD
I am using WinDVD 3.0 on Win2K. I found no problems at all.
Not only it supports DTS decoding and Dolby Digital, it also provides excellent quality of DVD playback on my Geforce 2 Pro.

It's not the product that's at issue here-it's the POLICY of Intervideo regarding customer service and support! If ethics are not a priority(and they are to me 28-31X/month)go with WinDVD-you'll be in good company.

Apologies to Idaho-I realize this is YOUR thread and your issue-just clarifying my rant link.Hope you solve your problem.

I use WinDVD 2.x currently. Is it worth it to upgrade to version 3.0? Thanks

about PowerDVD and WinDVD, I would go with WinDVD cause it is much better quality than PowerDVD

Gonzo2k,

Exactly why do you need a new unlock key eveytime you install it? If you tell them it is going to be installed on a computer without internet access (like a Home Theater PC) they will ship you the CD, and you won't have to bother with web activation.
