why is this movie never mentioned when discussing war films. i thought it was pretty good, it has a good premise, the acting was decent, pretty well directed.

of course i happen to be watching it.

it wasn't as...emotionally charged as many of the better war movies have been

this movie would be opposite 'The Thin Red Line' on the spectrum of plot/story/emotion vs blowing sh!t up.

That movie was crap. Cage is either playing an android with perfect aim or he has heat seeking bullets.

Aside from those retarded action scenes, the acting was nothing amazing and the script was hardly anything to write home about.

It was 'just another WWII movie' when it came out, and it wasn't even a good one.

Agreed, the movie sucked. If you want a real world war II movie set in the pacific, watch the thin red line.

Yup, it sucked, and I love war movies, even bad ones generally, but I hated Windtalkers. John Woo should never be allowed to direct a movie that needs to be at least a little be accurate.

I've never seen that before. It seems like people either love it or hate it. I really need to check it out. I've heard that they are making a Pacific version of Band of Brothers. I can't wait for that.

That movie left me with the taste of blah in my mouth. It didn't suck but it wreaked of mediocrity to the point where I couldn't take it.

Oh and Cage and the Native American dude were so gay for each other. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the homosexual undertones were like woah.

An ok movie. The cinematography was quite good, especially the wideshot scenes that showed the battlefield and artillery explosions. As others have said though, that one scene where that dude just mows down a bunch of Japanese soldiers was utter crap. I suppose the Director, Writer, or someone thought that would be cool, but it caused my eyes to roll around uncontrollably and I soon lost all respect for the movie. Other than that, the story was actually pretty good and worthy of telling, some schmuck though couldn't help but add in too much and ruin it all.

Isn't there supposed to be a Band of Brothersesque HBO series (multi-part/spielberg/hanks) dedicated to the Pacific? I remember hearing or reading about it but I haven't seen any mention of it since.

never realized so many people had such strong opinions about this film. for a mediocre film it's generating a lot of comments.

Because most people who watched it expected it to be a good movie. It disappointed them

i just watched it on TBS without any expectations and i thought it was ok.

i guess less expectations means less likely to be disappointed.
