I can't remember the last time that I got the right refills the first time, am I the only one with this problem?

I went to AutoZone after work determined to get the right refills, the guy at the counter was very helpful, he looked it up in the computer and said lets go outside and get the windshield wipers just to make sure we get the right one's. This was one of the few times I had received great cs so I couldn't say no.

The guy grabs the wipers and starts to install them, I was very impressed what great cs I was receiving, then he started having a hard time inserting the refills I asked him if he needed a hand he just smiled, grabbed a big pair of pliers and said nah I got it. He started spreading the clips open so he could install the refill, I asked if he had the right size and he said "sure, these can be a bit tricky sometimes".

I wanted to stop him because he was about to hurt himself and he was installing the wrong size refills, but he was being so helpful. After about 5 minutes one of his coworkers suggested that he try the narrow refills, he looked at me and asked if I thought that was the problem, I told him it was worth a try. He installed the new refills and bent the tabs back to their original position.

I can't complain about the service but it's good to see that I'm not the only one that has a hard time with windshield wipers.

I never bother with refills and just get whole new blades. Besides, I've yet to find a place that conveniently carries BOSCH refills.

Walmart, plug in the car, buy whatever it tells me to.

I love how autozone tells you to replace every 6k miles. LMFAO. I replace like every 100k miles. Where do the autozone guys live? In the ocean?
 
I always go OEM for my blades. Replacing the whole blade is a rip. Though, I did replace the entire assembly on my dad's truck because the OEM ones never worked correctly.

I generally replace mine every 12-18 months.

Edit-I just buy whole new blades. Cost less than $20. It's money well spent IMO.

I tend to be on a 6-12 month schedule myself. Of course, there's a good bit of rain up here in Seattle.

I found that if you just buy the cheapest ($2.50 / wiper) they work just as good as the expensive $10.00/wiper.

Replace the whole thing.......$5.00 🙂

Agree and Targets cheap wipers are the best of the bunch (yes I have tried them all even the expensive kind). I believe they are car and driver brand. Always buy them.
 
I usually buy the whole blade. It usually works out better than the refills, often the frames become a little warped, so the refills don't always work.
I just changed the wipers on my wife's car - Anco blades - less than $4 each. One of them didn't work well, so I picked up another and it was fine. Maybe the more expensive ones last a little longer, but who cares.... they generally last 2-3 years (up here in new england)

As for changing them every 6k... what does mileage have to do with wipers? I think everyone knows when they need new wipers... that'd be when they start streaking and/or making noise....

Sun, heat and time will break down the rubber and make it brittle. More heat and more sun will render them useless even sooner.

same here,when needed,
usually every fall,I buy Winter blades for my Van.
 
I just use the little book at the local Napa place. Look up yoru car, buy what it tells you to buy. Pretty simple.

I just bought some triple edge Anco replacements (~$6 ea). They absolutely suck. At low speeds, they streak a little but I found out today that at highway speeds in a steady rain the top 1/3 of the driver side blade appears to lose all contact with the windshield on the down stroke. Is there an adjustment I've neglected?

100K miles? Do canadains get into lots of accidents when in rains?

100K is about right. Just scrape the edge of the blade w/a penknife or your fingernail 3 or 4 times a year, or when you see a streak. Replace them when they start to rot.
