Windshield Replacement

My Mazda3 has a huge crack running from right to the middle (passenger side) of the glass due to a chip on the right edge. I couldn't repair the crack since it was so close to the edge.

About how much should I be looking to pay? My 3 has rain sensor on it on and I am thinking it will cost a bit extra. My insurance deductible is $1,000 and I am sure total price will be lower than that.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have a feeling your deductible for glass replacement is a lot lower.

Local shop charged me over $300 for a new windshield for my Corolla.

I paid about $190 for a windshield replacement in my Mazda Tribute. The first quote I got was $330, so it pays to shop around.

Some insurance plans actually have a 1-time free replacement type clause.

Some states REQUIRE the windshield to be replaced for free because it's a safety thing. OP call your insurance, might not cost you a penny.

googlging gives...
"There are only a few states in the US that waive the deductible for windshield replacements or repairs. The states of Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts and South Carolina waive the deductible and thus are referred to by some as zero deductible states with regards to windshield claims."

I reside in CA and I already called my insurance company (Esurance) and they do not provide any one time replacement.

Thank you all for the advices.

If you have a bud and a truck, you can just order the seal online and get the glass from a salvage yard. Should be real cheap if you are looking to save $$$.

Woops, just remembered you have a nicer car. I'd only do it myself on a beater 🙂

What else did they tell you when you tried to fix it?

My GF's corolla had a crack and she actually let it run to the edge and it still got fixed. Was expanding like an inch every 2 days and its been stopped for almost a year.

Another vote for Safelite, quality glass, they come to you, and the best prices anywhere. When my replacement guy didn't show up on time I called them, and they in turn called him. He was running a bit late it turns out, no big deal, but they at least had contact with the installer. Unlike say the cable company, where you wait around all day and then they say they will be there tomorrow, at 5:00pm.

Safelite all the way. I've done well with them, my bro has, my dad has. Very professional and know what they are doing and do a good job at it too.

I can't remember a vehicle that I havent done that way....Never needed some bud either 😀

Sometimes just laying on your back slowly pushing them out works, others you can use piano wire at it makes quick work.

You can also order the glass from a glass shop.

Some glass companies will bill your insurance company for the cost of the deductible and subtract it from the cost. YMMV.
