Windshield damage and the poor owner

I have two "windshield stars" on my windshield. Windshield stars are result of a small rock or gravel or baby feces hitting your windshield at high speeds (usually on highway or freeway). There is a small crater with cracks extending from it, hence a star formation (or a swastika if your unlucky). Anyway, I have two, one is the size of a dime and the other is the size of a nickel.

I hear replacement for windshields can be around 300 us damn dollars, but I'm too poor to afford it (yes i do have a job) and my parents tell me it's not that bad.

Do you guys know of anything I can do besides replacing the windshield?

How big are they? If they aren't too big, you can go to Wal-Mart or something and get one of those glass repair kit deals. Those little stars can become cracks after a while.

Go to or caqll a glass shop, usually for $20 or so they'll fill them with an epoxy or something. You don't pay for a new windshield and if you dont fill them your windshield will crack, then you'll need a new one.

They sell windshield repair kits for $25 at auto parts stores, or you can have a glass company to repair the crack for about $50. Just DON'T leave the cracks alone! They'll probably get bigger when you go through an automatic car wash, or when you try to defrost your windshield when it gets cold outside. Then, the car will fail it's next safety inspection, and you'll HAVE to get a new $300 windshield.

Or go to the shady repair place in town that will give you an inspection sticker for $20, no matter what condition the car is in.

progressive pays for your windshield "damage" at $0 deductible, and it doesn't count against you. If you have good auto insurance, they will do this too. Think about it, what would they rather do, pay some monkey $40 to come out and fix the damage or pay $1500 (01 jetta) for a new windshield.

Most new cars use soft glass, and this is a big issue considering the aerodynamic shaped windshields are 4-5 times more expensive than older cars...
