so I have a crack probably in the center of my windshield, and it has spread across my whole glass(from driverside to passenger side).

It doesn't really obstruct my view, but Im wondering, is it possible for it to shatter while Im driving(any reason such as something hitting it and whatnot?)

If it doesnt pose a significant danger to the driver, I guess I can live with it until I get a new replacement, but if it is really dangerous, I might consider getting it replaced sooner.

thanks.

I've had a crack all the way across my windshield just below/at the wipers and it has been fine. I would imagine as long as it's just a line and not spread out, it should be ok?

windshields are rather shatterproof unless theres some sort of direct accident...even then they usually come out in one big piece and a few tiny shards. I wouldnt be too worried.

No, it will not shatter. Windshields are made of a laminated glass. You could take a hammer and smash it until it's all cracked and it still wouldn't come apart.

All front windshields built from like the 60's on have a coating so they do not shatter. You'd have to try to shatter them for it to happen. It is the back window you would have to worry about it.

You can shoot a bullet at the windshield and it will not shatter, just make a small hole.

Although their might be laws against driving with you windshield like that so you could get a fix it ticket.

Rear and side windows are made of safety glass which breaks into a million pieces. Not really dangerous unless you happen to get a piece in your eye.

IF you do not have comprehensive, the cost should be around $200.

If you do any type of traveling with the vehicle, choose a place that has a nationwide coverage.

Make sure that they will also fix any chips for free.

Many places will price match other local shops.

A guy ran a stop sign and t-boned me in the driver side door. That glass went EVERYWHERE and it stuck in my skin on my arms/legs/head. It was nasty.

Yeah it will add something like 5 lbs of tensile strength in rollovers which is nothing compared to the few thousand of pounds of impact... but hey I agree it helps =)

Of course the structural integrity of the glass has been compromised, but it's not going to shatter in your face or anything, no.

Also here in VA your car won't pass inspection like that. I don't know about other states but something to think about.

A lot of insurance companies require any crack over 6 inches to be fixed, because it's a liability. Not that big of a deal unless you get in an accident and they find out.

Would you rather have long razor sharp blades of glass flying into your arms/legs/head? Safety glass is used because it lasts a long time, it is heat and cold resistant, it remains easy to see through if clean, and it doesn't kill you when it is shattered during an accident.

Until we invent transparent aluminum you'll just have to deal with it.

BTW- in most states it is illegal to drive with any sort of windshield damage. It can result in a traffic ticket.

OP, if you intent to go off road, you might listen to this advice, but it's completely not true, and silly.
