My friend gave me a computer from his aunt to fix. It has windows XP on it but when it boots it brings up the safe mode, start windows normally, etc screen for win ME and then says that there was a change made to the registry. If you choose any of the options available it starts coming up with errors that system files are missing no surprise seeing as how it it running windows xp and wants to boot ME. I went into BartPE to see if it was indeed win XP and what I found were the usual files for XP plus the boot.ini file has no mention of ME ether. Her husband use to do all the stuff on the PC but he passed away awhile ago so I cant ask him and she has no clue as to whether it was ungraded or what? Any thoughts I have none right now!?

I did a fixboot from recovery console and it worked. Still I want to get rid of any left over ME files though I suppose a clean install is the only real option? Thanks for your suggestions.
