seems since my friend got winXP,,,and i have win98se,,,we can't talk on the mic anymore . she had win98se before ,winXp came already in her system when she got that pc. . thing is i tried msm messenger 4.6 as what xp comes with and it still doesn't work,,,i can hear her but she can't here me,,is there away she can remove 4.6 from her XP , and use the 3.6 which we never had a problem with in the past , i use 3.6 still and have no problems with anyone else . TYIA

she thinks maybe she deleted something that prevents us to talk,,,but she's not sure about that,,i would just like to be able to remove the 4.6 from her system and send her the 3.6 which i have zipped in my documents

you can uninstall it but you first have to enable viewing all files including system files.
Navigate to C:/windows/inf
Open sysoc.inf
find msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 in the file and take out the word hide so the line would look like msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7
Close the file and save it
Now go to the Add and remove programs applet in the control panel and you will be able to uninstall windows messenger.
Make sure to click on the add remove windows components button.
Note: You will be able to uninstall other unneeded programs by removing hide from the sysoc.inf file as well.

i'm sorry,,,but i don't have xp,,,could you tell me exactly where she would find this? msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7,,,,i will have to tell her how to do it while i'm typing so maybe u could make this easier on me ,lol,,,ty

<< i'm sorry,,,but i don't have xp,,,could you tell me exactly where she would find this? >>

Navigate to C:/windows/inf
Open sysoc.inf

she'll need to open the control panel> folder options>view & uncheck hide protected OS files & choose show all hidden files & folders before navigation or else she'll not find the required folder for editing.
after doing that go to add|remove programs in control panel & remove messanger!

I thank you very much,,i hope i can get her to understand this,,,ty again,,,
