I am doing the quizes and I just said that I work at the local Best Buy. You can get the store numbers from a Store Locator on their site. I doubt they will verify that you actually work there.

right - abuse of the system will make sure that no one will ever get to use the system again. i really detest folks who feel entitled to ruin it for everyone else.

piss off...

dew.

Got my XP today in mail - retail box with the "NOT FOR RESALE" sticker on front. Very nice. No it's not for sale - replacing 98SE (ugh) on wife's machine.

DJMix - Why the hell does it matter if it comes in the retail package or is OEM? Oh right! The retail one runs faster and has fewer bugs. ?!?!?!??!? Unless you are looking to resell it (which is a violation of the rules) it makes no difference. And even then, what would stop someone from buying it if it were the 'OEM CRAP.' Remarks like that just make no sense. It's an OS. Not a video card with no manual or software - weird.

Sorry for the rant folks - I hate when people cant find anything better to do then crap on a great deal.

how many machine can you install Win XP legally, 2?

Legally? All you want.......but only one at a time. Of course you will have to call MS and explain each install (after the first) to get it activated. It used to be that the "signature" rolled off the MS servers after 6 months, so you could get one extra install without a phone call that often. Don't know if that has changed.

Short answer: You can legally install it on one PC.

Actually it was 120 days, or 4 months.

The 2 computers idea is from Office XP. That allows you to install on a home computer AND a laptop. However windows XP is 1 computer only.

I just received mine today. The one I got was the full retail win XP pro version. It had a sticker on the front saying not for retail, but nothing else seems to indicate that, and I'm betting when I open it up it will be the normal full retail contents, and NOT a special cd that has not for resale stamped on it. I've gotten a win XP pro cd before that had NFR stamped on the cd itself.

Is there anyone else who can confirm that they got a box and the cd inside is a normal retail one?

BTW, I'm not suggesting you resale. I'm just describing what I received today (it only took a few days after I did the training, I think they send it 2 day air).

holy cow i didnt no so many anandtech people worked in retail stores. 3 days ago when i ordered by windows xp there were like 480 left. Today i check the prize shop and there are now like 80. Anandtech effect at its finest lol. Anways i got my package today and it did not say "not for resale" anywhere. If it had it where would it say it? I checked where the COA and it didnt say anything there either. The good thing about this is i didnt have to do any new quizes since the ones i did laster year i automatically recieved points and i had enough to order an xp =) anyway not sure what im gonna do with xp retail, already have the oem.

I've opened mine up and it not only is a full retail CD, but mine has a notation on the CD that it "Includes Service Pack 1," which saves me the time of having to slipstream the service pack into the CD contents.
