WindowsXP not allowing me to switch windows for a sec from time to time, and after a few seconds does

I'll be using IE/Miozilla along with browsing my directories and watching a divx or something along those lines and with my mouse i can't click on the other window, its as if it doesn't see the UI, I can alt tab to it and then everything works right but for a few seconds it won't let me switch like the screen is frozen.

any ideas?
 
How fast is your computer? It sounds like a slowdown made by some part of the computer (most probably hard drive).

hmm , its a inspirion 8500 with a 2.4 ghz cpu, maybe its hard drive, ill defrag tonight

i found some other info saying it was xp being non patched so i upgraded to xp 1, ill post later if that did the trick

Using a 8500 too with firefox + sometimes IE...

Dont have any such problems here. Update to the latest BIOS. Check your hard disk for errors, and run a defrag on it.

I do have the XP SP1 though.. so you could try that.
