My friend claims he did a clean install of windows XP but now can't login. He, to my surprise, claims that the only thing he was asked for was CD key and name. He never provided a computer name, login password, etc...I've never heard of something like that happening. Is there any kind of default password he could try? He tried the obvious admin, administrator, etc stuff to no avail...

I seem to remember something like this, here's one thing to try

at the login screen, where it probably only says 'Administrator' ...
have him press ctrl+alt+del twice in a row, which will bring up a manual login that lets you enter whatever you want. have him enter his name with no password, that may work.

oh yeah: this should be in operating systems.

if anything... go into safe mode and the welcome screen should list whatever accounts exist on the machine. i assume u could try to log in as administrator... hopefully the password is blank.
