Most stuff works now on the 64-Bit side of the system.
The exceptions are mostly driver issues with printers & cameras.
Obviously there's little in the gaming world at this time.
QuickTime doesn't play either.

I have to boot from the 32-Bit side to print with the HP PSC 2210 - no 64 drivers . . yet.
My Creative & Minolta cameras only work on the 32-Bit side.
Haven't been able to get the SATA RAID to work - or even initiate on the 64-Bit.

Since I'm in a 'Dual-Boot' configuration, it's a minor annoyance, but we probably need to
harass the hell out of Creative, HP, Lexmark, Epson, 'Insert-Name-Here' until they respond
by producing a comprehensive driver package -
it is their responsibility to provide the drivers that make their products work, not Microsoft's.

Performance wise - It's a fast and crisp system in 32-Bit, and even sharper in 64-Bit -
I estimate I'm seeing maybe 10% better performance on the 64-Bit over the 32-Bit when
doing the exact same functions (except for the above mentioned driver issues).

I would guess that when Microsoft does officially release the 64-Bit in all it's glory, it will
be maybe another 5% - 10% better than the RC2 we're playing with now - better function
of memory & taking advantage of the 64-Bit CPU's design.

I heard that 16-bit support had been dropped and that most installer programs are 16-bit. Do applications install OK on XP 64bit?

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but TV tuners are still completely unsupported in x64. I can't find one product with beta x64 drivers today.

For some this is no biggie, but for me it's a heavy hit. I need my tuner/capture card for my side biz. :(

Anyone been able to run 3d mark 2k5 under RC2? I keep crashing at the end of the Proxycon demo.

It does not support 16-bit applications. Current installers are 32-bit, but there are older apps which have 16-bit installers which won't install, or you'll have to manually set them up.

There's actually some sort of workaround in the OS for some of the most popular 16bit installers. It's really odd that they stuck around as long as they did, so MS had to make some special arrangements for them.:Q

A default administrator account is created, using the password you supply when you install it. If you lost that password, you're going to need to reinstall XP64.

I never got to logon for the 1st time. Don't know where it could have got a password from. I am running Win2k now. Guess I'll have to try to re-install it again. XP-64 that is.

When you installed x64 you were asked to provide an administrator login password, this is long before you are ever prompted to login yourself.

You were correct Megatronic, I had to re-install without the repair option, and it works but the video performance is way too slow for me because Nvidia doesn't make drivers for my Quadro2 MXR video card for XP-64! I'll stick with Win 2k until I can get a supported video card.

The standard drivers suites don't cover quadro cards? That's a tough break man. But honestly, you aren't missing much at this point. There is very little WinXP x64 software out to use and the performance is inline with standard WinXP x32 for now.

And you've witnessed the driver support problem firsthand.... My TV card has no drivers either.

They only support Quadro4 and FX! 66.xx Drivers don't support my Quadro 2 either.

I've seen reviews of XP 64 for AMD RC1 and everything I've read said gaming takes a hit using it... Does anyone know if RC2 suffers from the same performance issues that RC1 had in regards to gaming?

I can't find Realtek drivers for x64; everything on their site is for 64 Bit, which ISN'T the same thing. Basically, all the ones I've tried delete a windows file and render my os useless. Anyone have a link to some realtek drivers that WORK with an amd64 and rc2?

RealTek Drivers

It's what they are offering for 2003 server - which is what the AMD X64 is based on.

You didn't list what motherboard you are using - that would be a help, you know . . .
