Hyper - did you install on a secondary hard drive? I have tried "turning off" my SIIG Raid 0 to use a Western Digital 200 gig hard drive but it keeps telling me that the operating system cannot be found.. "error loading operating system." I'm thinking this is a problem with the master boot record, so I reformatted that drive and tried again, no result. Any similar problems?

I didn't have any luck with the drivers that came with Windows x64. I didn't have any drivers install for the sound card or the Nvidia MAC. This is with an A8N-SLI Deluxe so I know they work.

Well the sound card has nothing to do with nvidia and are you sure it's the nvidia MAC and not the Marvell LAN you're having problems with? Anyway, I was referring to nForce3 :)
I meant on board sound which the 6.25 release of drivers fixed. I'm also positive I was having trouble with the Nvidia MAC, the Marvell controller installed with Windows. It was strange.

Onboard sound isn't nvidia. So those problems have nothing to do with nVidia drivers. Yes, I think I read something about the nForce4 MAC not being supported yet.

Yes, but the NVidia sound drivers work better for the onboard Realtek chips then the Realtek drivers do. I've tried the Realtek drivers, I'll never try them again.

NVidia knows that people with NF motherboards are going to use their sound drivers.

I had the same problem, I had to install the drivers manually via the Device Manager.

Same here. The installer for the drivers is borked but the one for the control panels works fine.

OK, I went in a did it manually. That worked, and you have to go into the install files and select the CP install program to run that on its own. That works too. Thanks you guys for the solution.

Don't know why the 'Sticky' is dropping - it shouldn't be.

Well I have my AMD XP 64-Bit Edition running, finally.

First I had 6 unsuccessful CD burns of the ISO File RC2 copy, so I dumped the download
& started the download fresh - in case there had been a bad file dump.

(Thanks VIRGE, the chainsaw & axe were a temptation there towards the end though)
[From the PM]
I highly doubt there's a problem with the downloaded image, so it's likely your burning setup.
Try burning the disc slower, switch to a different type of disc, or use a different burning application.
I've heard of people having problems with 5.5. Try 6, there's a free demo for it.

After still another 'Coaster' I did a re-install of all the Nero upgrades I could find,
& finally got a copy that would boot & run the install - only to be greated by the BSOD
on the first restart after the initial installation run.

So - reconnect the primary HDD, dump the contents of the new (now slave) hard drive,
format from scratch - & start over. (I was running it in as a 'New - First install)

Plan 'B' (From Outer Space) - I whipped out my old, original Microsoft XP 64 Disc,
the Original from way back when it was first released last year, & it ran in fine.
Then I place the newest ISO burn CD copy in & do a 'Repair' - so it will update the program.

Back to the BSOD - 'Windows cannot start - WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
is corrupted or missing' - Go digging, no file. Can't copy from anywhere, 'Ka-Chung'.
'This file is in use, and cannot be copied or moved, do not pass GO, do not collect $ 200.'

So dump, kill, chop, hack & mutilate - format & I'm back to square one.

Run in the 'Original 64-Bit CD' - again, & give up on the RC2. It installs, starts, & functions - suprise !
The LAN Driver works right away, ABIT 3rd Eye right out of the box, lets me hook up & start pulling in the ATI Video, VIA, & Sound.
Only have to move the VIA over to the 32-Bit side so I can do the Unzip, & bring it back for the installation run.

Maybe I'll install the NERO & Updates on the 64-Bit side, download from there
& see if I can get a good ISO file to copy and burn on this side of the fence.

Surfed around a bit, & it's really pretty crisp & fast, moreso than the NF7-S/XP2600+ Overclock was,
maybe a 25% jump in performance on the 32-Bit side, & from what I am seeing on the 64-Bit side of the system
(Dual-Boot) that's maybe another 25% faster yet.

Some things don't do anything - except stare back at you with a single cold dead eye, but those that work are really really nice.

Dear Bill & CO. - Please send me a CD of the RC2 so I can actually get this spaceship off the ground.
I'm tired of it running around in circles, or are you going to nail the other foot to the floor as well ?

Just installed RC2 and it runs like a charm with my new rig. 3000 newcastle, lanparty nforce 3, etc. Radeon 9800 pro. All drivers worked fine except the nvidia ones which i just downloaded from them. Good stuff. Now on to running steam and counterstrike source...

I recommend Computer Associates Etrust Anitvirus. Free subscription for a year. That is what I'm using for RC2.

Update to my 64-Bit installation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few posts above I documented the problems I had in configuring my installation.

Well, after reviewing the issues of the install, I decided to try something that VIRGE had
mentioned - from scratch. I used the 'Old-Original' CD disc installation to download from
microsoft their latest RC-2, placed it on a file that I could access from the 32-Bit side of
the computer and changed from my brand new stack of Maxcell CD-R's, over to some
Memorex CD-R's, and got a clean burn of the ISO.

Then I dumped all of the partitions off of the Seagate 160GB, formatted it from the 32-Bit
side & disconnected the WD 120GB that runs the 32-Bit side of the house, & set the
160GB as the Master in a one hard drive configuration, put the CD into the player &
pushed the button - it booted, ran the program in (a little screen flicker in the driver set-up)
but it completed the install into a new 31000GB partition in 17 minutes.

It wanted to register, so I tried it - the LAN had been configured & it hooked up to the internet & 'Wa-Laa', it's on !
Checked into the Device Manager & found that everything except the HP PSC2210 Printer was on and working,
so I did the update & install to the VIA Chipsets for the 64-Bit & the ATI 64-Bit Video drivers,
then set up a 2-user system for my wife & myself, then set up the MSN for our E-Mail.

Overall this install went very well, the features in the RC-2 are so much better & robust than the RC-1 from the original Microsoft CD was -
it's a different world.

After getting the set-up running, most of the stuff is as good as, if not better than - the 32-Bit configuration,
stripped down a bit, little clutter. it's much faster and very crisp.
Only draw-back is the printer (have to return to the 32-Bit Boot) and maybe gaming.
I'm not too much of a gamer, so I've got no problem with that - yet.

For the Anti-Virus I went with the AVast Home
& used the Microsoft SpyWare

As things develop this should be a great advancement of technology in computers for the home user.
I'll start tormenting HP until they get the drivers out for my printer.

After seeing how this performs - in both the 32-Bit and the 64-Bit mode(s),
I don't know why anyone would waste their time and money on a Pentium based system.

(Except for Mastertech01 - he deserves his Intel based system)

Oh it does pretty damned well on my Nocona Xeon system too.. damned Intel! Should be seeing EM64T Prescott singles pretty soon as well.

Of note: this driver probably works for NF3 boards as well. The 32bit 6.39 drivers for NF4 work very well on my NF3-250Gb motherboard (once I added the GART driver that was missing). One could do the same thing with this driver set.

I'll let you guys know since I'm setting up RC2 tonight and plan to go 6.39 plus 6.25 GART

Ok guys, can you explain why my computer is running a lot slower most of the time over regular XP Pro?

I have all teh drivers. Mobo, sound (XP self installed this), LAN, and Video card. But doing things on the desktop runs everything pretty slow. Is it beacause I have older 64?

Here is my setup:

3200 Newcastle (Overclocked to 2.45GHz)
K8V Deluxe
512MB Corsair XMS Pro
80GB SATA Hard drive
GFX 5600
OCZ Powerstream 420

Oh, and I'm also using Avast Anti-virus.

The only thing I can think of is because I have an older A64, or all my 32-bit processes are running on the emulator. Could that be it? Other then that, everything works, not bad conisdering what people have told me.

Nothing should be running slow, TGND, XP64 should be about as fast as XP32. My only advice would be to make sure that your video drivers are installed and working correctly; back with RC1, I screwed up installing newer video drivers, and even though they were "installed" they weren't doing any sort of GUI acceleration, so it made Windows seem very slow.

I had a incident where in a computer build class one of the new computers just plain
loaded slow - and then just crawled in it's performance. We dumped the installation,
and did a 'Write Zeros' program - it was a new out of the box WD 120GB, and then
re-ran the installation. That time it ran in fast and performed as a nice fast computer.

Never figured out why it had a 'Bad' install, but it's been fine since the re-do.
