were you able to find a driver for this?

last time i checked TB's website they said the TBSC would NOT be getting any XP64 support since they considered it an End-of-Life/unsupported product.

*note for others: TBSC = Turtle Beach Santa Cruz


edit: the TBSC has actually been end-of-life for almost 2 years now! you should really consider moving to a newer sound card. Some people on the 3DSS forums seem to agree that TB has laid off all the engineering staff who knew anything about the SC so they don't even HAVE anyone to write drivers for it, assuming they wanted to in the first place!

 
I'm tempted to try this out, but I'm concerned I'm going to be getting in over my head. I'm not a programmer of any kind and don't enjoy spending hours trying to get simple things to work. As a gamer and somewhat casual computer user, how good an idea is it to use this?

Right now I have XP Pro with no service packs (you can guess why 🙂 ) and it works just fine. (Granted, I'd rather have XP Pro SP2, but that's not really an option.) Am I going to still be able to use my printers (Epson R200 locally and an HP Deskjet 6122 shared over a wireless network), software (Trillian 3 Basic, WoW and other various games, Photoshop 7, iTunes for my Gen. 3 iPod, Cannon ZoomBrowser EX, Office 2000, and Encarta World English Dictionary), and keyboard/mouse (Logitech Cordless Mx Duo)? Or am I pretty much guaranteed a gigantic headache trying to get all of these things to work? I don't suppose there's a simple OS rollback included with this...

I want to try it out (hell, I think I might actually buy it when it comes out), but I'm nervous I'm just going to wreck my computer.

Oh, and BTW, my hardware is...

  • AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Newcastle
    ASUS K8V SE Deluxe K8T800 for AMD Socket 754 (which I'm using for sound, too)
    2x Corsair 512MB PC3200 DDR DIMM
    eVGA nVIDIA GeForce FX5900XT
    NEC Black 16X DL DVD+/-RW Drive, ND-3500A BK W/SW (OEM)
    Pioneer DVD-ROM (came with the computer in '01)
    Enlight ATX 420W Power Supply EN-8420934 (doubt this has any relevance to anything, but why not throw that out there?)
    Viewsonic E90f+SB 19" Monitor

I don't think anyone who hasn't got SP2 installed on their XP32 should be touching XP64. Even if you're a software pirate, you obviously don't know how to fool XP into allowing you install SP1/SP2.

And I can't think of a single reason why a legitimate Windows user would still be at XP-RTM, instead of at least SP1 - which is well proven to be safe on absolutely everything!


 
I just downloaded Win XP Pro x64 today...is that RC2? Also, does anyone know where I can get MSI K8N Neo Plat. network drviers? When I put in my CD the driver field is blank, I guess becuase windows auto installed the NF3 chipset drivers. Should regular network drivers from MSI's site work ok?

Does anyone know if standard 32 bit ethernet drivers for a 64 bit motherboard will work, or do they need to be special 64 bit drivers? I need network drivers for my MSI K8N Neo Platinum

Basically the answer is the same across the board.. you need 64bit drivers for XP 64. I havent seen anyone yet using 32bit drivers for anything that works as it is intended.

=/...I'm not sure what kind of ethernet my board has...all MSI's site says is
- Integrated an nVIDIA MAC for Gigabit LAN.

Anybody know what kind of Ethernet controller it uses so I can get a driver?

Anybody try RC2 with a matrox display? I have a G400MAX DH and a G400 that would not work with any versions thus far.
 
Bar81 : Were you responding to me? Where can I get that pack? I just want net =(

EDIT: Just DL'ed the 6.25 beta's...hopefully that'll fix the problem

Yup, you can just install the NIC drivers when you run the setup for the pack although you should probably install it all as it's the latest drivers for your board.

I know it's old but it WORKS. I like it much better than the Audigy 2 ZS Gamer I had before. The only problem I have with the TBSC is that gameport has resource conflicts that I can't resolve so I just disable it.

Here's all I know about x64 and TBSC:

Not very promising, eh? Maybe I'll just put this card into my wife's computer and just use the onboard sound for a while yet.

Would I need to uninstall the nForce 3 drivers first, or can I just isntall over them if I want to reinstall everything?

Yup. You installed x64 on the same hard drive as WinXP didn't you? They are sharing the same Program Files folder now, and the Program Files folder for x64 has the same name as Program Files in WinXP. The contents of your Internet Explorer folder were overwritten with the x64 version of IE. That's why it's broken.

I had this happen to me, too. I was pissed that I made that mistake. :| 😱 😀

Don't think it's necessary but just to be safe uninstall, run Driver Cleaner PE in safe mode, and then install the 6.25s

Nope not very promising! Thats why when I specced out my A64 build last august, I decided to hand-down the Santa Cruz to my brother who's still on a Palomino 1600+ AXP and won't be touching XP64 for a long time.

I have no problems with theAud2ZS retail box I bought to replace the TBSC and in fact find that it has better audio quality than the TBSC (Aud2ZS has better DAC's).

Anyways maybe you can stay with the Realtek onboard sound for a while and then maybe move to a VIA Envy24HT based board in the near future. From what I've heard, their XP64 support is fine.
 
Yeah, I'd been considering that. It seems to me that M-Audio will support their cards in x64. I'm just gonna use the onboard until the audio scene stabilizes after x64 goes Gold.

Does anyone have any thoughts on x64 and TV tuners? So far NOT ONE tuner that I've checked on has x64 drivers. The ATI TV 550 Pro seems to have the greatest potential for timely x64 drivers, the hardware looks good, too.

I think we got a bit confused there. I thought you were wondering what the performance impact would be if you installed UT2K4 under XP64, but then ran it under XP32. Now I realize you wanted to know what performance is like in general for UT2K4 under XP64, in which case it appears to be about the same as under XP32.
 
I am having some problems with itunes. Cd's will not not show in it, If I can't rip my own cd's, then I may just go back to x32 xp.
 
I haven't tried iTunes, but I'm not shocked you're having issues. iTunes installs a whole service to handle things, so that could definately cause issues under XP64.

I don't think Itunes will work, it has CD burning software in it and no 32 bit CD burning software will install for me. Must be cause of the need 64 bit drivers for all hardware.
