I need some of your expert and seasoned help here, folks:). My win98 system stays on the shutdown screen and will not power off automatically. I've tried running a reinstall to correct this problem, but no dice. The BIOS power management settings seem fine, too. The motherboard is an EPoX 8KTA3, of which I have another that does not have this problem, identical cpu and settings. Any suggestions?

M$ has a lot of info on this. There is a patch, but it didn't fix my problems. I just let it sit there for about 5 min, and then just hit the switch. Has to do with bios.vxd usually. I have an ABIT BP6. I just deal with it...

My sister's computer started to do that after I messed with the BIOS power-management settings. Try some different settings. She is using her computer right now but if I get a chance I'll look at the settings that got it to shut down again.

other than the BIOS, sometimes its your Video Card driver, USB Driver, etc. See if you can restart the computer in windows. Then install all the drivers for your components, making sure they are the latest from the vendor. I had that problem before and it was my Geforce Driver that caused the shutdown problem. Hope this helps.

I know of two computers that were fixed with the patch that MS has for this problem. Both computers had Abit KT7 raid boards, T-Birds and Antec sx 1030 cases. If you can't find the patch let me know, I have it on a floppy someplace. Its around 500Kb.

Guys, thanks for all your input!:)

I don't have any USB devices attached to the system; as a matter of fact, I believe that all USB operation is disabled in the BIOS. I can't find that patch that esquared mentioned, but would love a copy;) if someone could e-mail it to me(or refer me to a link).

Thanks again, and keep the suggestions coming!
