Windows7 ordering - What a Farce!

Well, it's 00:41BST here in Euroland. The Amazon site says that "Windows 7 Pre-Order offer starts at 00:00 BST on 15 July 2009" but you still cannot order anything. Meanwhile, the Microsoft 'microsoftstore.com/UK' site has completely collapsed.

Have Microsoft's marketing people learned nothing from the Vista debacle?

What a Farce!

Cheers.

Hey, no probs man! The posting was made a little 'tongue in cheek'... I am still opened-mouthed that during a recession retailers still have this 'can't be assed' attitude. Still, just heard that the Fed rescued bank Goldman Sachs has awarded all its employees a bonus *averaging* $180k!!

Cheers.

all i need now is a new pc..

Nice heads up.... that beats even the 47% off I got from MS for beta testing....

Europe didn't have the same preorder times as the US? And, is it really £80 for the Win7pro upgrade? Thats a good bit higher than the US preorder price of $99.

No upgrade because it's our special bloody EU edition.... £80 for the full pro 'e' edition.

Um, Home Premium is selling out everywhere.

Maybe they will release some more.

Possible, but unfortunately highly unlikely as this is purely a marketing adventure. You may remember that Microsoft suffered massively in the early days of Vista from poor take-up. This in turn put off other possible purchasers and the press had a field day gloating over the whole sorry mess.

They have learnt from their mistakes(!) and will now be able to claim a large number of already installed seats on official launch day. However, they won't want to cannibalise their revenues by offering too many discounted copies. I was warned that the number of European copies would be tight hence my angst last night! As you say, Amazon has already shifted all of their copies.

Cheers.
