Windows7 lockups and IE

Been using Win7 for about a month now and have had only 2 lockups....in the past 2 days I get a lockup at least every 5 minutes....I have tried upping voltage on cpu, cpu fan full blast, etc....still locks up. It seems to be when I run IE8 and hotmail I can't attach photos without it locking up immediately. CPU oced but no lockups at all in games.

Has anyone else had problems recently with update with hotmail, etc...did notice some updates for Win7 and updating to see if that helps. Did rollbacks and still having trouble.

WinXP hadn't had a lockup in like 6 months? To bad no DX10/11 for my 5850 or else would still be XP.

Try resetting everything to normal for now and see if that solves your issue. If it does, then your OC simply isn't stable.

First off for now go stock, dont OC, Then check your temps, what is your GPU what is your CPU temp ? at load , not at idle,,,, seems like dust is the culprit open side of your case and give it some air.... good luck

I haven't had any lockups with Win7 at all. I used to have those problems with Vista, although I suspect it was a driver issue. IE8 in Win7 has done some weird things like magically closing its windows with no warning. But it's possible that bug has been fixed since I haven't seen that behavior in a month or two.

As already noted, stopping all overclocking for a bit would be a good diagnostics tool. So would a memory test and a look at the Windows System and Application Event Logs for error messages.

Had the same thing start a few days ago after a recent batch of updates. Not sure if its related but up till that point I hadn't had a single lockup/freeze since it was released.. Very rock solid..

Not sure if this applies to your issue, but Microsoft has a hotfix for random freezes/lockups in Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008 R2. Hope this helps.

A friend of mine was consistently getting BSODs after a windows 7 patch (we think) changed a TCP/IP setting. Once he toggled the TCP/IP setting the problem went away. This was on a brand new Asus high end machine so their mobo or network driver might have had something to do with it. Might be something to try/look up if you are running out of ideas.
