Windows7 for Gamers?

I am still using XP on my main gaming rig, but what are your thoughts about Windows7 64bit for a gaming OS?

Will there be a FPS hit?

You would need to provide more information such as specs, which games, etc.

However, since Win7 is still a beta OS, it would not be recommended although you can try it. Let us know how it goes.

I installed COD4 and it does work, partially. Basically you cant play online with PB turned on, when i get on a PB server it tells me that there is a communication error. But when i get on a non-PB server everything is fine. So the game works but PB doesnt.

With Worms Armageddo, the colors are little mixed up, but besides that everything works fine.

Pro Evolution works great without any problems.

A lot of people are actually reporting a performance increase with Win 7 over Vista due to some Memory Management updates in the new OS. I myself have Win 7 on my main rig and none of the games im playing now (Warcraft 3, WOW, Fallout 3, World In Conflict) have any issues at all.

You won't be able to run anything OpenGL (Quake, Doom etc) if you're using an ATI card on X64. The Windows 7 beta drivers do not contain an ICD.

Oh, and don't even attempt to use the beta driver if you're using X64, have a 3xxx series card, and are running with more than 4GB. This is the same issue that 8.12 has.

I played TF2, but only once and I noticed a slight reduction in framerate in Widows 7 vs Vista.

I had problems so I had to uninstall and couldn't do further more in depth tests, but that was my 1 time observation.

Real benchmarks here link. .

The results of our today?s test session turned out quite predictable: even if the use of Windows 7 instead of Windows Vista did provide a gaming performance increase, it was really minimal in most cases. We didn?t reveal any serious performance worsening as well, which is also quite normal. The Operating system should in fact be transparent to the user because it is simply an interface where the user?s applications, including games, are launched.

You want to start a thread in the video forum about that, and provide more details? Thanks.
