Windows7/ATI default resolution.

Problem:
When my monitor is powered off the resolution is changed to 1024x768, causing all non-maximized windows to be clobbed up in the top left part of the screen.

This happens if i turn off the monitor by power button, or if the powersaving timeout puts the monitor in standby. When the display is active again the orginal resolution is restored.

I have tryed to change the values in the HKEY_CC/System/CurrentControlSet/VIDEO tree to no avail.

Monitor is a HP LP2475w on ATI 5800 via display port.

What I want to achive is to keep the 1920x1200 resolution at all times.

I remember seeing a dialog popup some time ago, saying something simmilar to "Connection to the hardware at Display Port 0 has been lost", I think the dialog had an ATI icon.

Do any of you experience the same? on Nvidia, ATI, Intel adaptor, with dp, hdmi or dvi link?

Most importantly, anyone know a fix?

Thanks.

Edit: seems the guys over at hardocp are also seeing this, http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1507324
workaround would be to avoid dp, but no fix seems to be available : /

So if the monitor is off or in standby why would it matter? You using logmein or something? I am trying to understand how you are seeing this res if the monitor is off. Is the monitor driver from HP installed? Usually lcd monitor drivers are unnecessary but yours may have quirks that the driver would clear up. More information would be helpful.

While the monitor is off it is ofcourse no problem, it's when i turn it back on I see the clutter.

All windows have been resized to fit in the 1024x768 resolution and they're moved to the top left if their position were outside of this. Desktop icons are not affected.

No, I am not running logmein or simmilar and I have not installed any HP drivers besides what windows installs by itself.

If noone else is seeing this it may very well be a specific issue with windows 7 and this monitor/graphics card combination.

I'll have a look at to see if HP provides any drivers for this monitor.

Edit: Installing the driver HP provided on their website had no effect.

That is often determined by your monitor's drivers in concert with your graphics adapter. You may have a bad marriage there. Can you try a different graphics card? Even on board?
