Nah, your not 🙂

Win98 has never given me serious problems like people suggest, its always been very stable for me, to the point that if things seemed to realy fcuk up and i hadnt just installed some beta POS, i was more likely to start considering for hardware problems 😛

Its just that its memory management is terrible, and whilst Win2k/whistler do take up more ram, they dont half use it. Im running Whistler B1 as my main OS now, and it pleased me so much that i upgraded to 256MB to really let it rip, and im glad i did because this machine aint gonna be seeing more than a few minutes of win9x usuage again in its lifetime, and i notice the difference THAT much.

robg1701,I will probably bypass Win2000 & go for Whistler in the future ,that`s if it`s any good.

Well, hell, I guess I should add my opinion in. Unfortunately, I haven't tried out win2k yet. I want too, but I'm too lazy to find all of the drivers for my stuff and make sure things are compatible...I will give my two cents, if you are doing 98se, I'd go with WinME. All you need to do is tweak it around a little bit and it runs stable and fast. Also, you way want to throw your OS on it's own partition, it stays defragged better. Also, invest in this wonderful program called MemTurbo. MemTurbo is a little proggie that lets you recover your RAM. It has a quick one that takes about 20 seconds at the most to recover or a deep scrub that unloads everything useless and returns memory to the computer. As far as rebooting, I hardly ever do, and my computer is on almost 24/7. No compatability issues, I might change this post after I use win2k, which my friend is installing next week, so who knows.....

mem, i played with win2k near the start and while i loved the apps side of it, the gaming side was a bit raw at the time, but with whistler its been schweeet, so youd better start saving !!!

or downloading if thats what you prefer... 😛

i guess whichever OS really works for you. I like win2k personally just because it's very stable and I don't play much games.

Windows 98 makes my computer screen go blue too many times 🙁

Hi Y'all,

My perferred stup is a dual boot. Why try to get the benefits of one in the other? Win2k is by far more stable. For all of you with stable win9x, CONGRATULATIONS! The drawback to win2k is gaming performance. While it does support DX8, it really looses performance in games. You can get about 98% of all games to work inwin2k, just check outNT Compatible and they'll guide you if you need help. I suggest running 98Lite as the second choice. It is a clean and STABLE OS that allows all the gaming, without the unnecessary win9x crap. Best of luck. BTW, I have this other OS *cough*whistler*cough*, but it needs some work and it will be a while before it works as universally as win2k. You know MS, they know they're the kings and they need not rush for the common man. Choose your own path.
As Always,
D

I will never go back to Win98/ME. I do not know of a game that I have tried that does not work with Win2K. If it does not work in Win2K I do not want it anyway.

As of right now.. Win2k is my Os of chice. its stable and its veyr robust expecially with what I throw at it all hte time.

Its been nice stable and you gotta love task manager.

Win2k would be my desert island os pic if I was forced to choose. I have noticed that Win2k does not run audio recording apps like Cubase very well and the video editing software like Premiere does not run all that good also in win2k. Some games just wont run or install in Win2k even if you use the Apcompat utility. Some games have trouble running them in open gl in Win2k like Unreal T will choke on me in open gl but runs flawless in 3d3. I guess for me I will always have Win98 somewhere on my hardrive just to support the apps and games that wont run in Win2k like a gamer that cant get himself to throw out that old Super NES out of their closet or the computer gamer junkie who is still runnning Dos 6.2 somewhere on their hardrive so he can fire up the oldie but goodie games of yesteryear.

Well I just installed a dual boot with Win98se for games and Win2k for everything else.

I wish I had not f***ing bothered now...win2k is soooooo good in comparison it takes the p**s.

Even the game sI play run soooooooooooooo much better in Win2k (unreal tornalment, messish, Q3)

Now I am going to have to spend another day wiping the whole HD and reinstalling win2k on its own...suppose I should have done this orginally!

knowley if your going to go Win2k only now, make sure you reformat in NTFS to get optimal performance and storage in Win2k.

I don't understand why everyone says win98 for games. I've never had a problem playing a game in Win2K, even old DOS games. In fact, I would say Win2000 is BETTER for games if you have a Voodoo3 card. For insatnce, Ultima 9 is way more stable in Win2000 than in Win98.
