i just built a system and decided to give windows xp a try.. i tried installing splinter cell but in the middle of cd2 it pops up with a "wrong volume is in drive. please insert volume SC1 into drive d:" error. i then installed the game successfuly on my win98se computer... is there some setting i need to change to get it to work?
i have a p4 3.0ghz w/ hyperthreading, a geforce 1, soundblaster live value and a toshiba dvdrom... dont know if theres some sort of setting in xp that i need to tweak. thanks for any help. I'm about to just format the hd and install win98se on it.. heh
it seems to happen on multiple cd games... cause warcraft 3 installed fine.. i'll try out some other multiple disc games..

hmm it also gives me this error when i try installing from a moutned image on the hd.. so that cancels out the dvd-rom and the ide cable.. must be something with my system ...

Don't game CDs generally have copy protection? So doesn't an image on the HD have to have a crack to circumvent copy protection errors? Maybe that is why you are getting that error. Copy protection is done by making the CD somehow non-standard, I understand, and depends on the CDROM firmware responding to this in certain ways in order to confirm that it is not a copy. So if your CDROM is little flakey, you may be getting copy protection errors. You could try the CDROM from your old computer in your new computer.

Gosh darn it! I was just going to say check your anti-virus program as that is probably the cause of your problems but you found out yourself just seconds before I figured it out!:brokenheart:😀
