Windows XP vs. Windows 2K

Can someone tell me what they think is better? Windows XP or Windows 2000? What are the pros and cons of each? I heard that Win2K is better because WinXP is bizarre.

I agree with han888, it's hard to tell at this point, but basically WinXP is to Win2k as WinME is to Win98SE. WinXP has a load of new features, I hear, and it is very compatible with software and hardware (apart from the obvious facelift), which on a lot of Win2k rigs don't work entirely correctly.

Man, if WinXp is akin to what WinME is to 98, I am steering well clear of it. Almost every WinME machine we have has had to be tweaked in order to run as stable as 98se. I love my Win2k machines, both server and workstation. I can't think of a reason I would need to upgrade.

I think Me is superb, I run it on my laptop and it does everything I want it to. Even the System restore has proven useful.

If XP will have some of the more useful features of Me and a better support for hardware then it will be great. Though it mustn't sacrifice stability, NT4 was better at that anyway.....

Lets wait and see.

WinXP = Win2k + new UI + System Restore + better hardware and software compatibility.

If you don't like/need/want the new UI or SysRest, and don't need the improved compatibilty then Win2k should be fine.

Personally I'll turn System restore off, and likely the new UI as well. But the improved software compatibilty is great. There are a fair number of games that won't run under Win2k, especially older DOS games. Not *ALOT* but enough to make it annoying at times.

And from what I've heard, WinXP is very very stable especially for a Beta. I expect it to beat Win2k in stability when it's done. Won't match Linux of course....but then there are areas Linux sorely lacks in. But lets not get into that discussion here.

Just installed XP Pro last night. So far VERY VERY VERY VERY Cool. Very stable, for a freaking Beta. Runs like a REAL OS, not a Beta OS. Runs Tribes 2 Perfectly, and it just looks so much cooler (I am kind of a Mac Guy down deep, so bleh🙂 But really, MS actully did somthing new and good for a change, I am surprised so far. And cant wait for the real release.
