windows xp update authentication check

if i fail this check, what will happen to my operating system? will i still be able to do everything, but the upgrades and stuff won't work? or will it like disable the operating system? thanks!

If it fails ... 1): You will get a Nag screen warning you your copy maybe illlegal
2): You will not be able to download updates from MS directly, but you could
get them from Autopatcher. com and other sites that put them together monthly
3): As it stands right now, ms will not shut off the OS ... they might be able to
eventually

If Authentication doesn't find a legit version of XP, a bunch of Combine soldiers break into your house damaging furniture using razor-sharp copies of Windows 98 until they find the perpetrator's computer, which they then proceed to smash into pieces and burn in righteous fire while a modified version of the USSR hymn plays in the background.

How can I uninstall the update that started all of this crap? I'm tired of the nagging notification!

Buy a legit copy? Just a wild guess 😀

Thank you captain obvious...what OTHER options do I have?

report yourself to microsoft....they will fix it for you, I promise they will make the bad message go away

If this update is installed, and nothing happens, I guess that means I've been cleared ?

I mean, I should be, I'm using XP purchased directly from MS, but is there some sort of affirmation that things are checked out, or is the absence of warnings all there is ?

Knowledge is power..and MS ain't telling you nothing..

OK..If you pass the test, then you are allowed to download..end of story

Shoplift a legit copy? Print some $20's on a color printer and buy a legit copy with them? Try out a newbie-friendly Linux distro?

system32 folder: May need to be in safemode to remove these files.

wgalogon.dll
spmgs.dll
wgatray.exe

where setup are:
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\6c4788c9549d437e76e1773a7639582a

delete those files and problem solved.

I just renamed wgalogon.dll and wgatray.exe (c:\windows\system32\) then deleted them on the next boot.

If you use this site with firefox the problem never gets installed. 😉

Easier solution:

Using System Restore, restore Windows to a point before the WGA update installed. After that you'll need to pay attention to the Automatic Updates and don't install the WGA tool.

i dont think it will allow any updates if you dont instal the WGA patch

Can anyone confirm this? I don't think its a big deal because of AutoPatcher.
