Hi everyone,

One of my bosses is seeking my assistance with a problem he is having with his laptop. He started it up this morning and it was going a little slower then usual. His laptop is by no means new, but it still has 1.8 gHz CPU & 512 GB RAM. He was able to log on, however once his Windows desktop showed up, it stopped there. He has no icons or start menu show up, just the Windows desktop. It has been sitting that way for 30+ minutes.

Unfortunately, he and I are located in different states so I can't view his laptop (or his problem) first hand. However it sounds to me that Windows is terribly lagged by trying to open up & run too many processes during its start up (possibly due to some type of SpyWare?). Does anyone else have any thoughts on what could be wrong or any ideas of how to alleviate his problem?

To me, it sounds like a reformat may be necessary. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had this same problem after running spy bot. I removed some stuff that apparently XP wanted. Check with him and make sure he didnt remove some spyware or something from the system. The only fix I could do was put it back on or restart and load xp from a previous working condition. Otherwise tell your boss to f off ;)

No, it wouldn't start in safe mode. He already said f**k it and bought a new one, lol. I think he was aching for a new one anyways.
