Windows XP stuck at Loading Screen

I currently have this setup:

Asus P5B-E
E6600
2GB DDR2 RAM
WD 250GB HD
7900 GS

The problem I am having is that my computer gets stuck at the Windows loading screen with the blue bar. It starts out like it is running fine, but then the blue bar slows down to moving square by square instead of the normal scrolling bar and never loads. I had this problem a few days ago, but it just fixed itself without me doing anything. I think it might be the motherboard because earlier it could not detect the CD ROM drive (tested ribbon/drive on another computer). I've put the hard drive in an external enclosure and it works just fine, so I do not think that is problem. I have also tried repairing windows, but that did nothing. So I am not really sure what else could be it. It passes POST just fine.

Is your CPU overclocked? Also, run memtest.

try going into your BIOS and resetting everything to the default values...............

I reset CMOS and set BIOS to default value but no luck. I will try to run memtest.

if you can, go to this site, download and burn the cd and run the following:

StressCPU
Memtest86+

I ran memtest and passed one round. The computer, for whatever reason, is working again, but I don't know how long this will last.

you ran memtest86 or memtest86+?? what were the results of it and stresscpu?

Memtest86+ passed one round. I haven't ran stresscpu yet.

I have this problem with my system, too. Completely different spec's, Pentium 930, Gigabyte SLI board, 2GB ST DDR2-667, 7950GT.

I have to just keep re-trying when it happens, and eventually it boots up fine, and is then stable as a rock afterwards.

Obviously, I try not to re-boot. 😀

make and model, if you please?

You really need to let memory testers run for a few hours before you can say for sure that the mem is good

sounds like your mobo is dying..or at least the SATA controller on the mobo....

I will let it run memtest86+ overnight tonight.

and then run stresscpu after that.


one thing did come to mind are you able to boot into safe mode?

Yes, I am able to boot in safe mode.

okay, boot into safe mode, and open up your control panel, go to administrative tools, then event viewer, then system and check for any errors.

do this after you've run stresscpu and memtest86+ fully.
