When looking for Service Pack 2, please be careful what you download. There are many fake links floating around that could contain malicious code, or are just plain outdated.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 should have the following MD5 hash and filename and be 266.01MB in size:

md5: 59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7
filename: WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

As always, I would only trust downloading Service Packs from Microsoft's site.

It seems a bit obvious to me to only download updates from Microsoft, namely TechNet.

Please just be patient people. 2180 will be available to everyone soon. Downloading files from non-Microsoft sites is not a good idea.

For newsgroups: alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.ms-beta

I checked the MD5 checksum and it's 59A98F181FE383907E520A391D75B5A7 so it checks out.

This is NOT WAREZ so don't bother me.

Haha guess it's fake.

MD5 : 94276421FA963122A4E434D3B14FDC01
CRC-32 : F76354CA

xpsp2_RTM_ENU.exe
265 MB (278,920,704 bytes)

No, I believe that's the 2179 build from the Chinese site which is functionally identical (RTM in Winver, no timebomb). 2180 is just official because MS likes a round RTM build :)

Sorry for the newb question, but if the md5sum matches, that means my copy does not have anything missing or anything malicious(trojans) added?

I ask because my md5 matches but the timestamp does not jive with the one on the MSFN link above.

If the md5 sum matches and the file sizes match, the chance that your file not being identical to the one MS wants you to have is infinitecimal.

why would you download sp2 from a non microsft site anyways? it's not like microsoft makes you wait in line for the download.

Soon. Go outside and do something. Waiting a couple more days won't kill you.

mine's at 5:06:58, but the size matches and the md5

also, can you press the Details button? When I do, explorer.exe gobbles up ~200 ram.

O-outside? Y-you mean where the g-girls are?

:D

And another thing. Why are you guys salivating over a 266MB network install that you probably don't need? When it is pushed out through AU (which will happen within days for some people) it will be under 100MB.
