windows XP SP1 1394 ISSUE

I am trying to set up a firewire direct connect between my 2 boxes and the XP box is having issues.

I have 2 firewire controllers
1. audigy onboard
2. abit max2 onboard

neither one of them shows up in the network properties panel. Doing an ipconfig shows i have 169. . . ip but i cant go in and edit it.

help! microsofts knowledgebase has something about this but they want you to pay for support to get the "fix" or "wait for it to come out in a service pack" I just tried SP2 and its a nogo.

firenet does not work when i have firenet installed the XP box doesnt even get a 169. . . IP it makes things worse
