The "Repair" button on my internet connection in windows xp isn't working. Usually, it would take a couple seconds after I click on it before it returns any result, but this time, it instantly gives up.

- Renewing IP address failed.
- Reregistering DHCP leases failed.

I tried connecting the computer to a router and also directly to the cable modem. Both didn't work. It's as if the network card itself isn't working. But, when I unplug the network cable from the nic card, it does say the cable is unplugged so at least it knows that much.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
don

UPDATE: Found the problem to start when I uninstalled NAV2003. Read fourth post below.

That didn't work. I don't think it's something to do with the router and modem. I think it's my computer. I think XP decided to ignore the network card or something like that. The other computer on my network is fine.

Now this is weird...

I pinpointed the problem to start when I uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2003pro. I reinstalled it and my network connection came back after I rebooted. I want to uninstall NAV because my liveupdate subscription ran out and I was going to switch to AVG.

Anybody had this problem before?
