Windows XP Random Stop/Reboot

I get BSOD once or twice a day, and even an ocassional reboot although I unchecked this option on my Windows XP System. It rebooted by itself this morning, and it had not been touched for over 12 hours.

Event Viewer System log always shows the same message:

________________________________________________________________________________
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 2/23/2002
Time: 12:08:31 AM
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
The DgiVecp service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
________________________________________________________________________________

The Microsoft link yields nothing (surprise). I can't find any info on DgiVecp service on the internet.

System is Athlon 1.4, ECS K7S5a, 2 x 256MB Crucial DDR, IBM 40 GB HD, Compaq A3000 All-in-one printer/scanner/copier, Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard, Light on 16X CD burner, GeForce3 (PNY) Grapics card.

Typical background programs are Morpheous, PopUp Killer, A3000 Print manager software, iTouch (for the keyboard).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can only suggest disabling that service (after stopping first if running). You can also right click and bring up the properties page, that will have the path listed to the installed program. I would try uninstalling the program first.
I just checked my services list and have nothing remotely like that service. It's something you have installed.

Thanks for your input. Strange thing, there is no DgiVecp in my services list nor any DgiVecp file anywhere on my computer.

I think some other application is trying to start DgiVecp service, I just don't know which one. The crash happens when XP can not start the service, which I apparently do not have installed.

Any ideas?

This is kinda a hassle, but start uninstalling the latest piece of software. One at a time.
Are you overclocking any?
aggressive memory timing?

I just noticed something:The DgiVecp service & this Print manager software. There may be a relationship here? Dgiecp ecp could be part of the print software. Worth checking out 🙂

This event has nothing to do with a BSOD.

You want to find an event with source SAVEDUMP that says "the system is recovering from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was (lots of hex numbers)"

Search the KB on those hex numbers and post 'em here.

You are correct; there was a "Save Dump" entry immediatly preceeding the DgiVecp error in the Event Log.

The contents were:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x00000030, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804ec5a2). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini022302-03.dmp.

This save dump file is on my hard drive, but I can not seem to open it so that it is readable.

Let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

(Edit) I did not find anything in the Knowledge Base. Google and Google Groups had a couple of hits, and I sent some Emails. Hopefully someone out there has the answer.

(Edit) I am 90% sure the DgiVecp thing is related to my Compaq A3000 printer software, and just a symptom not the problem.

(Edit #2) Both replies to my Email suggest a bad memory stick. I will pull them one at a time and try that.

Thanks,
