Windows XP Professional Question

Hey i have this weird problem with XP...for some reason it will not let me enable the first two options in Effects. i forgot what the other one is but the other one gives u the option to change to standard to Clear Type. Has TweakXP done a No NO or has Powertoys. If someone could please help on how to fix it it would be greatly appreciated.

Control Panel > Display > Appearance tab > Effects
"Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts"

Exactly!!! thats the one and the one that says thetype of font... ClearType or Standard...i cant Change the first one either it says use transition effects What gives? Is there a registry hack or am i stuck in this mode.
