Windows XP problem

My version of Windows XP Pro has somehow decided that theres a problem with my fonts folder and won't let me access it in any way... either to delete fonts or install new ones.

Every time I try to do anything involving the fonts folder I get a dialogue box telling me that a problem has been encoutered (no more info than that) and that 'explorer' must shut down. It then tells me to sent a report to Microsoft.

I really don't want to re-install my entire system over this.

Does anyone know what this problem is, and how I can fix it?

Thanks

This could be a case of "Access Denied" on the fonts folder. Read this M$ Tech Bulletin and try what it says. I had a similar problem and turning off "Simple Sharing" fixed it.

did you install any third party codec packs? this could cause the problem try to just slide the error box to the side i was able to still do everything when i had a similar problem

Many thanks, but neither of these solutions has worked.

Now I'm getting the same thing when I try to open messenger.

I've run a full virus scan but found nothing.

Why does my operating system deny me access to basic folders and programs, and tell me that I have to sent a report to Microsoft. Whats going on here.

The more I discover about XP Pro the less I like it.

What worries me is that if this can happen (seemingly at random), whos to say it won't happen again once I've re-installed everything.

Download ad-aware and spy-bot to make sure no malware is causing problems would be my first step. Make sure you are an administritator and that you have full permission access.

This is not a random XP pro problem I have heard of, fortunately, I have been running XP Pro for over two years with very little ever going wrong (Of course I may be lucky).

The your luck is just like mine 😉

I am running XP on four systems and Have had zero problems that were not self inflicted 😉

I have had to reinstall only to change a HDD. 😉

In 2 years I have done one reinstall on my sytem (added HDD Raid) and then I did when I built my son's new comp.

other than that I have had zero problems.
