Windows XP problem recognizing CD-RW

Hi! I've been reading the forums for a while, and was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with my problem. I recently purchased a Verbatim 52x24x52 CD-RW drive, and installed it to my computer, but the problem is, only the DVD drive will show when there is both the DVD and CD-RW drive installled. I've tried switching around the master and slave configs, but it does no good. If both drives are in, the DVD is only shown in XP, even though both drives are seen in the bios and Intel Application Accelerator.

If I take out the DVD drive, leaving only the CD-RW, then XP shows the CD-RW, showing that the drive itself does work. I've tried everything but I just can't get both drives to show up! I've even tried this with a TDK CD-RW drive, and still the same problem occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you got both drives on the same cable make sure the one on the furthest connector is master and the other is slave.

Viper96720, I set the furthest connector to master, and the other to slave, with still the same results =\ Any other suggestions?

I just installed the exact same drive into another computer just 2 hours ago. I had the same problem. The way i resolved it was by using the ide cable that came with the verbatim cd-rw drive. I was using a rounded ata100 cable before. For some odd reason the cd-rw drive would not be recognized when it and my cdrom were attached together. Changing the ide cable fixed that.
