Windows XP Pro will not install on KR7A-RAID!

Ok a big call for help is needed.

First I have uninstalled every component except, Herc GF2 Ultra, Plextor 16X10X40 and Imation LS120.
Secondly I have successfully installed Windows 2000 Pro.
Thirdly, it is a complete fresh partition, format and install of Windows XP Pro.

I am able to get to roughly 22 minutes left to install Windows XP Pro and I get a BSOD that says it had to terminate a program to save my computer. No mention on what the program is. The RAID driver installs fine other than Windows XP saying it already has the driver and recommends me using it. When I choose Enter (XP driver) it says no mass storage hardware was found. When I choose "S" (use Abit driver) Windows XP finds the RAID controler and begins copying XP files to my RAID 0 array. The next goofy thing that happens is I get an error screen during XP install (37 minutes left) that says "BLANK" program has not passed compatibility tests for XP and that it is not recommended to install it. In fact is says that if I do install it, it could damage my computer. What I love about this is, XP is the only program being installed!!!! I choose don't install the potentially damaging program and the XP install continues. As stated above, roughly at 22 minutes left, I get a BSOD with nothing more than telling me XP has terminated because of a program that would have caused damage to my computer. I reboot and as soon as it tries to continue the install, BAM BSOD! Since I spent six plus hours last night on trying to figure this out, I am a little bent. I have the newest motherboard and operating system, and they don't like one another.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

OK my friend experienced roughly the same problems I did. What he did to get XP to install is he updated the KR7A-RAID BIOS to 6G and he got the newest XP drivers for the RAID controller. Since I am at work right now I will update both and give it a shot when I get home.

i am also having trouble installing xp (actually i did get installed) on my abit BL7-RAID motherboard
not an athlon i know but the same manufacturer problem; in fact win 2000 doesn't seen to prevent my main problem: RANDOM reboots. 2/3 of the time I can't even get winxp to load. i think abit has released some really crappy products here. Time to go back to ASUS. Anyone know why so much trouble with abit?

Ok success! It was the RAID drivers on the Abit floppy. With the BIOS upgrade to 6G and a fresh floppy with the RAID drivers, XP loaded fine. One word of caution though, XP will say "Blank program is not XP certified. It is not recommended you install". Choose yes install anyway. A few moments later you will be asked again, but this time it will show the incompatible program as the HighPoint Raid controller. Choose yes again and all should be fine.

Good Luck!

I flashed to 6G, used the Highpoint drivers from the floppy and XP installed perfectly.
Make sure you set PNP OS to NO in the BIOS. Also set resources controlled by auto to manual. I have always set these 2 options to this when install in win2K and XP on every machine I build and NEVER have any problems.

Yeah, it always says that about the uncertified drivers...Its just to cover Microsofts arse if it doesn't work...the trick is to be smarter than the OS. ;)

I downloaded it and got all prepared to flash after my MB came yesterday, and it was already 6G. I must have gotten one from the next batch...

all you had to do was say yes to the question during the install.... the drivers and bios updates were unrelated

Hey, I'm interested in a KR7A, non-RAID...anyone know of a cheap, reliable place online to buy it?

I searched all around. I used newegg.com for my order. There shipping prices was the best. Only 10 bucks.
Other places may have slightly cheaper prices but want to charge 17 bucks for shipping.
Also look at pricewatch.com. This will give an idea of what they are selling for
Peace!
