Windows XP Pro: User properties Error...

"The Following error occured while attempting to read the properties for user Administrator:

The Server Service is not started."

This is the error I get when I click on the "Member Of" tab of a user in Computer Managment. This is a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with all current updates. Ive searched MS Knowledge base, but havnt found anything that can help me. As far as I know, there isnt a "server" service in XP Pro, am I wrong? If so, how do I start, restart, or repair it? Thanks.

The Server service is the one that handles file sharing through Network Neighborhood, among many other things. It's part of the standard install. If it didn't start, there should certainly be some information in your Event Logs to provide some clues.

Actally there isnt. Would it have anything to do with the fact that I un-installed NetBIOS for TCPIP? I have no need for it being as this is a stand alone computer just hooked up to the net. I dont get any error on boot about the service not starting, and I dont know how to retstart it.

Probably yes. Try reenabling it and see if it changes things.

Usually good at fixing crap like this, but the connection between the two eluded me🙂

Understandable. FWIW, this is a perfect example of why I hate Windows. I don't mind paying money for an OS. But paying money for poorly documented, highly integrated and thus highly breakable crap bothers me.
