Windows XP Pro Picture And Fax Viewer

Can someone help me figure out how to put Gif & Jpeg in the Windows Picture And Fax Viewer on XP Pro in the file type box. So that I might have more options than just Bmp. When you right click on an animated Gif image in an email or on the internet the only option is Bmp. When you try to save the animated Gif as Bmp you only get a still frame picture. The part that confuses me even more is this function works in the XP Home Edition why not XP Pro version.?? I have to forward my friend the email with the animated Gif image, she then right clicks the same thing I tried to do and saves it. Then sends it back to me as an attachment so I can save it and have a working animated Gif. I've tested this another friend that has XP Home and he can save it also with no problems. He is also a co-workerand we find the same thing happens in Windows 2000.
Please help a newbe figure this out.

In both winXp or win2000 you should be able to right click on any picture on a web page or in an email and 'Save Picture As...'
This will save just about anything from .bmp to .gif(animated or still) including .png and .jpg.

As for the Picture and Fax Viewer...I don't use it. I use a nice lil' free app called IrfanView.

I may try the program you mentioned. But the point is XP Pro does not function the way you say. There in lies the problem. How can I get it to work the way XP Home does. It does offer "save pitcure as" but only BMP file type. Why ??, and how can this be corrected..??

Try going to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, and scroll down to GIF, and select the program to open with.

But the problem is the Windows & Fax Viewer only gives the option to save picture as Bmp in the file type box. How can we fix this to include Gif & Jpeg in the file type box. I am fairly new to computers and need all the help I can get.
Maybe I not explaining the issue properly. XP Home Edition offers at least Gif & Bmp in the file type box. But this isn't the case in XP Pro. I don't understand why it is left out in XP Pro.
Help !!

Im using Pro, and I went to AT home page and saved an animated GIF, I clicked on Save AS, and the options were GIF, or BMP. Do you have Microsoft Image Editor set as the default program to open GIF set in the place I directed you too? When I opened the GIF from my pictures the Picture and Fax Viewer was the program that opened the GIF< and it was fully animated. If Photo Editor opens it then it is only a still pic. OK, on my system Photo Editor is part of my MS OFFICE Tools. I would have to start out with a fresh install of XP to tell you more. I have a bunch of image programs on my system.

ACDSEE is a great little image program for many uses, as is Irfanview

No I don't have it set to MS Image editor I can't find it. It is set to Windows Picture & Fax Viewer.
Should the MS Image editor be on my computer some where or do I have to go out to the internet to get it.
BTW I'm talking about animated Gifs imbedded in an email or on the internet. Yes some times it works on the internet but not all the time. When I right click to save the animated Gif and I get save picture as Instead of Save target as I'm screwed I only get a still picture not an animated gif.

Ok, opened the GIFs that you send using Outlook 2000 and got the same result... so I forwarded the messages you sent me to myself, closed outlook and used outlook express, and it WILL allow me to save those same GIF AS GIF!

If you sent them as attachments they will work.
Did you send them as imbedded in an email like I sent them to you>>??
