Okay so now that my laptop is all configured to logon to the domain at work, how do I set it so that when I take the computer home I can just plug it into my workgroup without losing settings? I am able to login to my user account when not plugged in, but then I can't use the Internet (either wired or wireless) while at home. There must be some way to do this without 3rd-party software...right?? I tried using hardware profiles but that didn't work.

Sorry bout posting this in OT..need a quick reply and couldn't decide between 'Networking' and 'OS'.

If you come home and login, what is your ip configuration?

At work is it DHCP? Do you have a DHCP server on your home Router?

I'm going to say that you may have a DNS problem, hence your inability to surf while at home.

Try to ping 216.239.57.99 (Google). If you can then you will have to look at your network/DNS settings.

A machine can't be part of a domain and workgroup at the same time.

Your best bet would be to add a local user on that laptop and login with that user while at home and use your domain login when at work. Or just continue to use you work login in chached mode, this should have no effect on ip configuration, unless your work installs some kind of firewall or proxy software.

Well said. The last option is what I do with my laptop and it works great.

I have some scripts that turn on/off proxy settings and release/renew. My friend at Brand X uses them. This does not take care of the domain/workgroup issue though.

Doh, I tried again with wireless access at home (instead of wired) and it worked. Then I realized ZoneAlarm was to blame...weird...but problem solved now.

Thanks
