OS is fully updated Windows XP Professional OEM version.
I changed the password to my usual account and deleted my spare account, then logged off. When I attempted to log back on, my password (which I was careful to enter precisely both when creating and entering) would not work. No similar variations (just in case I made a mistake) worked either.
I rebooted in safe mode which led me to a login screen with only the base administrator account. From there I created a new account and rebooted. There, the only option presented was the new account. For the sake of preventing confusion, let's say my old, usual account is "JSoda," my new account is "Jones," and the deleted account is "Deltd."
What happened is the following:
-Logged in as JSoda (who has admin privileges).
-Delete Deltd (who doesn't have admin priveleges).
-Changed JSoda's password.
-Hit [Windows]+L.
-Attempted to login again onto JSoda, which failed repeatedly. Tried capslock, shift, and letter variation to see if the password was incorrectly entered. No feasible combo worked.
-Used reset button to reboot into Safe Mode.
-Was presented with one account: Administrator.
-Logged into Administrator.
-Created Jones with admin priveleges.
-Rebooted into normal mode.
-Was presented with one account: Jones.
-Logged into Jones.
-Most of JSoda's icons are gone, background is default, no documents. Opera bookmarks are gone, unable to reimport.
-Look in C:\Documents and Settings. Tried to access C:\Documents and Settings\JSoda, access is denied.
-Go to User Accounts to attempt to delete JSoda while transferring documents to Jones' documents; only accounts listed are Jones and ASP.NET's account.
I have a recent backup of at the least my registry, but that's in JSoda's documents. The latest backup of my full system is from its reinstall a while back, which is less useful than what I have.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If I lose all this data, I'm basically screwed. I know, I know, I need to backup more often. That was a stupid mistake on my part, and I feel like an idiot for it.
ETA: I don't care about getting the account back so long as I can get the contents of My Documents back, so if there's just a tool that will let me do that, fine, whatever.
